Remember they had to work with the existing structure but still meet modern codes. We had to add handicap seating, we had to fix the ramped entries into the seating area, etc. Too me it looks like this is the reason for the loge circle and the odd proportions.

I'm also not a fan of 60 inch tvs in a 10/10 room, but guys everywhere do it. Personal preference. I'm not comparing the lower bowl to what used to exist. Based on the many pictures floating around, we have very few seats in the bottom third of the arena. To me that caters to the wrong thing in college hoops. I've been to a billion and one gyms, and Moody looks more posh than most, which is great. It just doesn't speak to noise and intimidation by design.

When I was being a sarcastic schmuck yesterday about not liking certain elements of the new build, this was one of my main concerns. I've never seen a college arena w/so little seating, so close to the floor. The first level of five rows, should be 7 rows. The wall is absolutely huge. It needs banners or posters on gameday or something. Then, we have the loge area which is essentially a dead space area, then we have the regular folk who start way to far from the court, for being such a small arena. The place was designed to be posh, just look at all the screens, the enormous scoreboard, suites, loge area etc. doesn't look like it was designed to be a snake pit, unfortunately. Comfort for our fans over making the other team uncomfortable. To me, that's a small fail. Certainly, I'm ecstatic to be back on campus and I appreciate everyone's efforts, but for a college hoops arena, I feel we missed the point a bit

There definitely seems to be a separation from the lode area down with the open space. Pretty much accurate when you describe it as more of a posh place than a snake pit. But it is really nice. The regular folk are not the ones that need to be catered to anyway right? LOL. But anyway, it should be a unique experience at home games.

One of the things that is said about Cowboys stadium is that because they have the big screen and all of the niceties that it is so comfortable that it looses it's home field advantage. I guess we will have to see if that happens at Moody.

. Very true - jerry world is almost too posh & never loud. Moody is tight so noise carries pretty well. Hopefully new fans will help b/c I see what Hoopman is saying.

The key to the noise is hard surfaces - and we have plenty of those. I actually don't think it feels "posh" at all except maybe up in the suite area (which is appropriate).

The scoreboard does not feel too big once you are in the arena at all to me - but maybe I have been anesthetized by ATT. one thing I agree with you on hoop is the number of rows of bench seating - should have jammed them in there - that is what is fun about college hoops - it the reaction of the game by the students - and their feedback loop to the players. I think beer will help us a TON with that from here on out.

We just need to make sure our game day mgmt. is thinking about volume and home court advantage. The band needs to get on board (no time outs for anything slow-ish - this is not the spot for big band music) and the recorded music needs to match an upbeat tempo - and the on court activities need to be for 20 something's and up. I am all about family stuff but no more little kids jump rope, basketball games, mini mustangs or any of that crud. The target market just got moved.

It's going to take more than a Snake pit atmosphere at SMU to make it truly a snake pit atmosphere. We are so far behind in that regard its not even funny. It is going to take many many years of winning to develop that attitude in any environment. That being said, I bet it is pretty damn loud on 1/4/14!

I can't wait.

And, lets wait and actually see it in action before we point out flaws.

If had paid for the so called "loge" seating,i would be unhappy....there is nothing private and special about this area...it will be a walkway, whether smu likes it or not ,unless they really change things....as to the first 5 rows, I am one of the old guys who yells, but this year I did agree to move to the lower level....my seat, though padded,is cheap, there is no leg room and the whole row is wobbly...last night in garland my seat was much more comfortable...the blue seats are stable and seem more roomy...I will still yell and upset my wife...The entry is spectacular, the club was not ready and the mens room had fewer urinals,it seemed..I think most fans will be excited about the visual appearance..

My two cents. The problem with the AAC and Culwell for that matter is high ceilings and shallow angles. While it gives the impression of spaciousness it also swallows the crowd noise and also tempers the crowd.

Moody on the other hand has steep angles where the fans are right on top of the action and the roof is low so everything is trapped. Those things they did not change that so the acoustics will still be the same. So I'm not concerned.

In regards to the students, I agree with Hoopmanx and it didn't occur to me. They should have kept the same amount of rows they has before the new floor and could not pull out the bleachers all the way. I assume it must be a space issue, but they should have made it steeper. I would hope that if we start filing those seats up, they could expand a little later.

I thought the red seats were pretty nice when I sat in them and much more comfortable than the blue seats or the seats at Culwell. I really like the cup holders. I don't think the loge was meant to be private and I think that the ushers will control traffic flow in those areas. It will be nice. Keep yelling. :D

So much needless worrying.... dear lord.
The dimensions and bones of the building have not changed. If people get loud, it will be loud in there. Period.
If our golf clap crowd from football goes to games, then it will be quiet.

By the age of the people in those pictures, I hope that we equiped Moody with Automated External Defibrillator devices. Some of the people look old enough to have attended the first game in Old Moody.
