It is getting better. Still a lot of work to do.
Tell me more lol. What do you mean it's getting better? Like what has gotten better compared to years past I guess is what I'm asking?
Last night, after running highlights of Texas beating UNC, our Fox station said "and SMU also beat UT-Pan American tonight" and gave the score. In years past, they wouldn't have mentioned us. Our relationship with the grassroots scene locally has also improved. After we fired local grassroots hero Jimmy Tubbs, who happened to be African-American, on very minor NCAA violations, SMU was seen as "racist" by the local hoops community. Frazier/Russell/Cunningham would never even consider SMU much less be on our roster if this were 2007. This view was held as a grudge for firing Tubbs. Sadly, after Tubbs passed, even Doherty started to get some recruiting traction in Dallas. I'm glad that we are reaching out to all segments of the community now and making the effort. It's about freaking time.

KKDA 104.5 has mostly inner city listeners so to speak. I think what Randall is saying is that he is glad that they are reaching out to that segment of the city imo. It would kind of be hypocritical if they recruited kids from that segment of the city but never reached out to them. Again, I echo Randall's thoughts.
Thanks. I did get that it was an outreach thing to the inner city, I guess I didn't go a good job of expressing that. I mentioned the Mavs cause they get the most pub all around Dallas and in the inner city. Lots might want to see a good game in person but might not be able to afford a Mavs game. I know I can't. We would be a good option for them if they know about us. That is what I was trying to say, if even this makes sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reaching out to all areas of the Dallas community is what we should have been doing for years. The same with futbol (soccer) and other sports. I think we miss a lot of potential recruits by being so narrow in our outreach.

Wasn't comparing you to him. Simply thanking him for doing one part of his job better than his predecessors

I don't want to rehash that situation but the whole Jimmy Tubbs tenure was handled very poorly. We deserved all the backlash we received from that. Coach Tubbs deserved better. That said, it seems we have gotten past that and so has inner city Dallas.

Who concocted that? Copeland? Orsini? Boosters? Because it was right in that transition period between the two when Doherty was hired.

Well, we know Doherty was an Orsini hire. Max Williams orchestrated the firing.
