SMU gets commit from RBModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU gets commit from RBFine I'm wrong. Like most texans, I care very little about basketball. And like most people with a brain I know June is here next year. So sue me for wanting to discuss what a recruit has to offer us when we get one rather than a never ending discussion of June's failures in recruiting. Even Zelt Minor and Ced Lancaster threads evolved into June hating threads last year. Both recruits that everyone seems to be happy with getting. It is tiresome.
I'll tell you this right now. If my kid is a football recruit and gets picked up by SMU in a few years and the first post on this board is,"another nobody from nowhere with no stars that no one wants" my kid is going to the first other school that offers him. Even if it's Houston Baptist!
Re: SMU gets commit from RB
And what if no other school offers him or people on that other school's fansite say something similar? You gonna keep running until you find some group of fans that likes your kid? Do you realize how ridiculous it is to make that decision because of what some people on the freaking internet think? They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: SMU gets commit from RB
If you are an athlete's parent and you're going on that school's message boards, you should probably get ready to hear some good and some bad. Louisville fans complain aboutTeddy Bridgewater - you think his mom gets upset and tells him to transfer? Much thicker skin is needed if your kid plays D1 football. That is just a fact. To say you would send your kid to Houston Baptist over SMU because some fans on a message board weren't impressed with him? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Wow. ![]()
Re: SMU gets commit from RB
Has JJ actually recruited a 4 or 5 star player and gotten him to sign on signing day at SMU? Peruna is my mascot!
Re: SMU gets commit from RB
no sh*t. people around here with such egos that they think their opinions are really affecting other's lives so drastically... ![]()
Re: SMU gets commit from RByour kid probably shouldn't play competitive sports then, because chances are somewhere, someone is going to have a negative opinion about him.
Re: SMU gets commit from RBJust because the world is full of wankers doesn't make it ok to be one. The point is that taking out frustrations about June on kids, or anyone else for that matter, is wrong. We should do better.

Re: SMU gets commit from RB
So what is the point of having a discussion board if we can't discuss two of the most important elements of the program, coach and athletes? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: SMU gets commit from RB
There are numerous interviews with recruited athletes that specifically say what a poor job SMU does of recruiting them. Commits that haven't heard from SMU in months, players that can't reach coaches, even LOCAL high schools that SMU has never been seen at. Meanwhile players and media have noticed LARRY BROWN himself and his staff everywhere and commented so. Recruits say they talk to SMU including the man himself DAILY. The unique circumstances of football or basketball do not factor in to that basic difference: recruiting competency. I am not a natural salesman, so I am not in sales. June is not and nobody on his staff is. LB's entire staff is entirely salesmen. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: SMU gets commit from RBNow that is the stuff that I think has to be looked at and I would totally agree that if this is as widespread as we are being led to believe then I think there are answers warranted and solutions needed.

Abu, I think I'm just going to pony up and buy you a rivals subscription for Christmas so you can stop saying "well if it is true, then..." I don't have one myself (yet), but I have friends that do and have read all the ridiculous stories about how completely lazy our staff is. Re: SMU gets commit from RB
First, we have more pro basketball teams in Texas than pro football teams in Texas. All 3 have NBA championships by the way that many Texans care about. Just because you don't care for hoops don't try and say everybody else doesn't. If your kid gets an offer by SMU and the only other offer he has is Houston Baptist you would probably be doing SMU a favor by sending him to Houston Baptist so that could clear a scholarship up for a better player that deserves a D1A offer. June will probably be here next year but he will have some definite expectations and goals that he will have to meet unlike his previous contract. I am fine with that. I think we are pretty tame compared to some other school's boards. #HammerDown
Re: SMU gets commit from RBThere is no doubt that June now operates under different parameters than when he first got here and I bet they have many more requirements

Re: SMU gets commit from RB
Yep. I understand that he doesn't like it and his agent is trying to find him another job but can't. He'll probably sign fairly soon and there will probably be an easy out clause in case they have to part ways with him next year. #HammerDown
Re: SMU gets commit from RB
If it is true? So you admit all your posting is exactly what 80% of us have been saying - completely ignorant. All this stuff is public and has been going on for years. Dedicated fans need to get on board with the real data otherwise Turner or whomever can continue to lie to you and exploit your cluelessness. Were you here for THE COMMITTMENT lie under Copeland?
