Mustangs Deliver Toys To Children At Customized Learning Center
SMU women's basketball team brought Christmas to children in South Dallas

Dec. 20, 2013

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's basketball team delivered toys to the Customized Learning Center in South Dallas. The toys were donated during December by student-athletes and members of the SMU Department of Athletics.

In addition to the student-athletes playing with the children, Santa made an appearance during the visit. All 12 members of the women's basketball team, as well as members of the SMU athletics department staff assisted in the delivery of the toys to the children.

"It means a lot to give back to the community. By doing this, we are making someone's Christmas holiday a little bit brighter. The holiday season is about giving back, and in some small way, I know we are making a difference," said SMU junior and SAAC Vice President of Community Service, Raven Short.

The Customized Learning Center is located in South Dallas, and provides educational opportunities and child-care services, with ages ranging from newborns to sixth-grade students. The vast majority of children at the center come from low-income families, with little resources to celebrate Christmas.

"We are so blessed and fortunate to receive these presents for the children at our learning center. Most of these families are unable to provide toys like these for their children, but with the generous donations from the SMU Athletics community, the children of our community will get to experience the joy of unwrapping presents on Christmas," exclaimed Customized Learning Center Owner and Director Jeannette Brown.
