June Jones' Contract

Postby smumustang1980 » Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:16 pm

Well, I was wrong when I disclosed that June was out at the end of the season. The same source has explained to me that the buy-out was $ 5 million for June and all of his assistants and the final decision was to punt for another year. The buy-out figures were based upon the remaining 18 months of his contract.

The good news is the contract allows SMU to walk away at the end of one more year without having to pay June anything. You can read between the lines as to why SMU negotiated this, and has said nothing further. Take this for what it is worth, although I am confident the information is accurate.

that contract should have been written on toilet paper because it is full of crap. 5mill sell out to move down to FCS. After getting creamed next year with no good recruits and no depth our chances of ever moving to a P5 BCS conference will go up in smoke.

That ship has sailed. This admin and/or CofC is not committed to competing at the highest level in football. It's not my money, but throwing away another year and another recruiting class to save 5 million is proof.

this is consistent with other reports on paid sites for awhile. It makes mathematical sense once you realize that June had 18 months left on Contract. There is no way SMU would get commitments for 6 million for June for 3 additional years. He essentially has a 1 season contract left

What 80 says is very similar to what I have heard but would doubt that there is actually no penalty to cancel the rest of the contract period. The exit amounts would be greatly reduced obviously and other older agreed incentives were removed but some left in for 2014 team success, but we know that will be extremely difficult with thin recruiting classes for the past 5 years.

So what you're saying is that June will have even less motivation for next year since he knows he'll be getting canned? This was a great decision

BOP- at this point who really gives a crap??? the admin, casper and the CofC are thrilled if we do no better than mediocre. Only the sheeple would support a program committed to mediocrity and substandard performance.

No am certain there are incentives but he has to recruit and coach his [deleted] off to some success....will he do that? Does he believe that this team can be coached up?

I'm more pleased with the situation after reading that than I was 24 hours ago. Also nice to see an AD that doesn't negotiate a contract handing a coach the keys to the University. Imagine that.

Let me make it clear: this is a one year deal with the three year smoke to keep the recruits.

STLhockeyguy02, I'm guessing Hart did not have a lot of say in regards to the decision about JJ. He gave his input but in the end it's the CocC's decision. If the five million dollar number being mentioned was/is the buy out cost, I understand why the decision was made to offer the extension. That is a lot of money to come up with. As like you, I don't like it one bit but I don't write the checks.
