Gosselin: will it stay?

Postby LA_Mustang » Sat Jan 04, 2014 11:59 pm

I'm still a lil bitter about Gosslin's take on the JJ situation but he asks a legit question in today's write up on SMU hoops. Will people show up against South Florida? I'll admit, It worries me and I'm skeptical.

I really wish he would have just noted the environment today. I am looking forward to the next game.

Well of course we are not going to sell out USF. But 4500 -5000 fans plus all the students in town plus that building and that team and some beer, and I think we will have some fun!! I won't be missing a game.

It's going to be ridiculous when the students get back added to 4500 to 5000 fans.

Don't sweat it! It'll take a yr or two of constant winning. We are in the process of building a fanbase that will only grow in time.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

F that guy. He could have kept it classy. I sure hope so - if ppl dont come back after that display and awesome arena, not sure what to say. People definitely came out of the woodwork for that one. Great to see ex-players there. Where was Koncack?

ridiculous. Does Georgetown draw the same and have the same atmosphere for USF as they do for Uconn. Off course not.

Do we have actual numbers for season ticket sales? I'm talking about whole season not mini-packs.

Why didn't Rick mention what it will be like for games like Memphis and Louisville coming up? UCF and USF aren't marquee games and will have less attendance naturally.

don't roast the guy for just telling it like it is...it was great to have a real home court advantage yesterday, but the real test of this program is going to be as he asks "can SMU pack Moody for games against USC, UCF & Hofstra?" I doubt it, but sure hope we at least draw 5,000 plus and that those who do show have a lot of enthusiasm. The last 30 years tells us SMU fans will not pack Moody night in night out like the really great programs do and it's a pretty safe bet the "fat cat" seating will be used sparingly so I hope we don't limit student attendance if the demand is there and (otherwise) empty seats are available.

I remember when I was at SMU making the mistake of taking a "1st date" to a hoops game. Of course, Moody was packed, she made us late and we were turned away from student section courtside. Fortunately, the place was not quite sold out (seated over 10k in those days) so they let us in...had to sit behind the west end basket in the seats that were at the highest point in Moody. You really appreciated how loud that place could get when you sat up there.

Bottom line is that while we are not going to change the culture at SMU overnight, Moody with 5k plus and a strong student turnout will give SMU a nice home court advantage against any opponent
