Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
Galena Park 4-star linebacker who was committed to Alabama switched to UCLA yesterday. Klemm recently got his teammate who was previously committed to Oregon St to switch to UCLA. I guess some staffs continue to work during the dead period.

Re: Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
yeah he's having a relatively quiet year-3 commits-but that's because UCLA had the No. 1 OLine Class in the Country last year so they have only 1 Oline commit this year but he's helping out at other positions. Most of the kids starting at UCLA are already Klemm signees just youngsters
Speaking of recruiters-there are 2 UT recruiters looking for a job that sure would help out SMU. Bruce Chambers who was Recruiting Coordinator focused on DFW and Oscar Giles who formerly coached at SMU. Is there going to be no turnover in our assistant coaching staff-probably not an ideal situation since June's status is questionable

That would be far too forward-thinking for this regime. Fire dead-weight (and maybe even hire an actual special teams coach!) and replace them with assistant coaches that know how to recruit the state of Texas?
Fire Carlos Can't-Coach Special Teams and Dan Who-the-hell-knows-what-he-does Morrison and pick em up.

Re: Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
Chambers can coach RB. You would need to replace Chang, Morrison, or Mumme to bring him in.
I am kind of wondering if Morrison is on the way out. Move Chang to QB coach and Chambers coaches RBs and heads recruiting.
Giles is a DL coach. If you bring him in, you lose Bert Hill. Could move Bert Hill to strength and conditioning and axe Mel.
I'd be in favor of chambers. What we need in addition to that is someone to coach LBs and do a great job recruiting.

Chang is in Second year as Graduate Assistant-not technically on staff

This is a no-brainer, dump Morrison and bring in Chambers.
Re: Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
SMU needs the passionate young blood coaches, not guys who did such a poor evaluation job and couldn't recruit AND coach at UT. If Mack would have jettisoned his staff and devoted the UT money to the top coord and assistants money can buy, he would be getting an extension now instead of out of a coaching job.

At the beginning of the season there was an article about the former Texas Tech player who had came back from playing and was a volunteer assistant coach for us. Does anybody know how he did or what the future holds for him?

Re: Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
btw Coachscoop is reporting that Bruce Chambers and Oscar Giles have been retained by Charlie Strong at UT. Former UT DB Vance Bedford who is presently Defensive Coordinator at Louisville will be the new DC at Texas if he doesn't get the Louisville Head Coach job. Smart man-to recruit Texas you got to know Texas. Bedford's been a DC/DB Coach at NFL/BCS Bowl schools for about 8 years-Chicago Bears, Michigan, Oklahoma St., Florida, Louisville-looks like a pretty good shot at getting that job based on his resume

Works in the weight room, so not allowed to recruit, right?Tx_Mustang'10 wrote:At the beginning of the season there was an article about the former Texas Tech player who had came back from playing and was a volunteer assistant coach for us. Re: Klemm keeps bringing TX talent to Westwood
only the actual assistants-not graduate assistants- can recruit off campus.
Btw plenty of rumors/speculation from both UCLA and Texas that UT might make a run at Klemm. UCLA just gave him a raise but not Texas money
