Could June Jones be a candidate for Vandy Job?

Postby PonyTime » Tue Jan 07, 2014 4:54 pm

Looks like Franklin and his staff have one foot out the door. The fact that they have recently started following Penn State recruits on their twitter is interesting.

http://nashvillepost.com/blogs/postsports/2014/1/7/vandy_coordinators_go_on_twitter_following_spreeof_penn_state_commits

Friend who follows Vandy sports told me yesterday that June's name had been thrown around in Vandy circles as an interesting candidate should they need to hire.

Think about it - he has succeeded at a school with strong academics and externally is viewed in a very strong light.

Those of you who want a coaching change sooner should be rooting for James Franklin to Penn State...

I think the only other college coaching position JJ would be interested in at this point in time would be Hawaii. This latest extension probably holds him over until Hawaii job becomes available again.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

 Please, June would walk out on us for any P5 job that would have him. Can't see why Vandy would want him though since he's the anti-Franklin and completely unsuited for SEC football.

Took a gander at the Vandy Fan Forum. They also want Butch Davis.

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=189&f=1603

A lot of talk about Franklin trying to get a new stadium for Vandy out of this deal.

They are tracking Coach Franklin's flights on Flight Aware and many are very fed up with the entire scenario. Should things fall through, he could have done some internal Damage, a la Jones and ASU on this one.

The Twitter following is a way for these coaches to reach out to Penn State Recruits in a way that does not commit any NCAA infractions.

I think they are as good as gone.

While I think Jones would jump at any P5 job, and the Pac12 more specifically - I just don't think he is suited for the rigors of SEC football (and the 365 days of recruiting that go with it!).

I cannot imagine how his yearly trips to Hawaii would go over with Vandy fans, while Nick Saban is out recruiting the day after he wins a National Championship!

Gosh, I would hate to lose June Jones to Vanderbilt. He's done so much for the SMU program...but think about what he could do with a program with REAL resources. Vandy has a lot of money, no real "athletic director" JJ would have to report to, plays in a packed stadium most of the time, and winning 7-8 games a year is considered a success.

Vandy could do much worse than June Jones. Please don't go Junebug! Keep your hands off of him Vandy!

Vandy already wears black uniforms if you are talking about June going to Vandy.

June could also revert them back to the Bobby Johnson days because you have to recruit hard in the SEC. That is how Franklin got them as good as they are. With June's system taking couple of years to learn, it would take Vandy at least 2 years before they saw a bowl game imo. And that is if June recruited well. Let him go but he won't because the SEC is no joke.

The only reason Vandy doesn't sux is because Franklin is the exact opposite of June Jones. No there is no chance that Vandy could be that stupid after seeing what hard work in recruiting can accomplish

You have to understand that external to those on this Board, June is seen as a Brilliant Coach who has brought our program out of the depths. They see players getting drafted into the NFL. They see the Bowl games. They see that the SMU program is relevant after years of nothing.

That is what ASU saw as well - until their fans revolted.

Think two steps ahead...Vandy (or Louisville) goes after DeRuyter at Fresno...does Fresno come after June? JJ would split back to the West Coast in a heartbeat, and we'd be happy to send him off. Also, his style of offense wouldn't get exposed in the MWC like it would in a P5 conference

Let's keep a positive attitude about this, ladies and gentlemen. It's GREAT that our coach is being considered for other jobs. That shows our head coaching position is no longer a graveyard type position. In the past couple of years or so, our HC has been mentioned for jobs at Maryland, Arizona State, and now Vanderbilt. That's pretty awesome.

Fact: Franklin showed that he can recruit the caliber of athlete needed to compete (pretty decently) with an SEC schedule. If our WORST CASE SCENARIO occurs and June ends up at Vandy, all June needs to do is to slip in, install his innovative offense, and keep recruiting the same type of players that Franklin did. After those brilliant football players at Vandy learn his system in a couple of years, that team could be contending for one of the four playoff spots. THEN Jones will have extracted his revenge on college football and could retire on top.

Please Vandy, for the love of all that is good and sacred, keep your hands off our coach!

now Fresno might be a possible scenario-I wouldn't hold my breath though if the AD performs any due dilgence

Would likely involve a paycut for Junebug, though. Just how badly does he want out?
