Texas aTm Vs. Arkansas - RPI question

Does it affect our RPI that aTm beat Arky last night and we beat aTm while losing to Arky?

From a pure RPI perspective, it doesn't really matter which of them won. RPI is 25% your record, 50% opponents' records and 25% opponents' opponents records.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page it shows the weight that each team will have towards SMU's RPI at the end of the regular season in the Future Weight column.

http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/SMU.html

  • SMU is slightly more than 25% because we are part of our opponents' opponents' records.
  • UH is slightly higher than the rest of the conference mates because they play some teams we play out of conference so they are a higher percentage of our opponents' opponents' records.
  • Actually A&M is the highest weighted of our non-conference opponents, because they play more teams that we play (UH, Arkansas, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Texas Pan Am, Mcneese State) than anyone else so I suppose it is actually slightly better that A&M won.

Grant nailed it, but it literally means nothing. It's so miniscule that it won't make a difference at the end.

yeah but nobody cares about your losses-but we can point to a win over A&M if they finish respectably

I agree, that is why I said from a pure RPI perspective. Separate from RPI it is better for A&M to win.
