Who Is Our Jerry JonesA lot of parallels between thr Cowboys and SMU. Who is our Jerry Jones and did we get rid of him yet?

Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesOur Jerry Jones is the faculty and of course R. Gerry Turner. They are preventing us from becoming a Football school because they are focused on becoming the next "Xavier" or "Villanova" instead of the next Stanford or USC.
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesJerry may suck as a GM but he is a great marketer so they make a ton of money, have a killer stadium, and will have killer practice facilities soon with the 100mil+ effort in Frisco. We have average marketing, not as much money as we think, and high school facilities (sans Moody).
Re: Who Is Our Jerry Jones
Completely agree with you We need to step it up in marketing. I want to see SMU Athletics being advertised on the side of DART buses, at Northpark Mall, on all the highways and as many billboards as we can afford. Also those lightpole banners with our football and basketball starters have to be everywhere in uptown! ESPECIALLY BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS! The money we will start making once Basketball turns elite and Football starts winning more championships. We could also advertise in our stadium...maybe sell the naming rights and call it the "Ford AT&T Stadium" ? or Ford insert company here Stadium?
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesI just wish our coach would not publicly say negative things about SMU.

Re: Who Is Our Jerry Jones
That would be a start. Then again try pulling that off working for any company and see if you have a job the next Monday. June is lucky he's got that buyout clause...

Maybe he took his cue from ponyfans.com ![]()
Re: Who Is Our Jerry Jones
June doesn't follow ANY of the free advice we give on here. Come on...
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesOur faculty is not even in the mix of issues here. They are like barking dogs that every knows can be ignored.
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesGreat question Lemur.
I hate to say it but I think our Jerry Jones is Jerry Ford. Word I hear is that he thinks we could do a lot worse than JJ and doesn't want to see SMU take the risk of hiring someone worse than JJ.
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesMy understanding is that there are members on the CoC who like June and there's no one willing to put up the money necessary to buy him out.
I hesitate to point fingers at the CoC though, without them who knows where we would be- we probably wouldn't have just gone to four bowl games in five years. I think if 2014 goes poorly, and poorly will be defined by missing a bowl for the second straight year, then JJ is out. We lost a lot of talent from this year's senior class and next year's schedule will be just as difficult if not harder- so it's tough to see how we get more than five wins IMO Also, it's fun and easy to point fingers at RGT, and he certainly should have gotten on board with fielding a competitive team about 12 years before he actually did, but let's not forget he was instrumental in getting a beautiful on campus stadium built and has allowed admissions standards to be relaxed substantially since JJ got here, so I'm not sure he's the villain that many on here make him out to be anymore. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Who Is Our Jerry Jones
Your understanding is correct, sir.
Re: Who Is Our Jerry JonesTo answer the question in the title, it's Gerald Turner. He has to sell the school and make the right hires and then lead. He seems to be a very skilled fundraiser and has done a lot of things "right" in my book (second century campaign, adding tons of real estate assets to the balance sheet, prez library, and was here for the hiring of JJ - which at the time was huge - and of course LB). If he can get our football program heading into the right direction, I wouldn't mind a statue for the guy.
