They are the lower level opposite the players benches. That whole side, about 350 I think.

I sit the opposite baseline from the band/ open concourse. I believe that's the east side. The suites & red seats are on the north side. The rest of the lower level sections are pull out bleachers for the students.

I suggest offering them to internal SMU groups like the
Admissions department
Education department that helps local schools with curriculum
Perkins who bring in seminary students.

Shouldn't be very hard to have tickets returned and then offered on the in house SMU web site.

Agreed. Like gostangs idea, but it is too harsh IMO. Nobody who shells out $$$ for SMU wants to feel threatened.

My gostangs revised letter:

Dear season ticket holder. Good news - we are a lot better and every game is now televised. Bad news - when you don't show and don't make sure someone uses your ticket it looks bad on tv, does not help Larry Brown in his recruiting efforts and overall hurts our efforts to improve our program. We would like to offer a solution help ensure your seats are always filled. Then include Pony81's idea, which is excellent. Having tickets go back internally for distribution is the right approach.

I agree with this and also think people should just go sit there after the 2nd tv timeout if they are not filled. I came back in at halftime and there were people in hofstra shirts in my seats, no one is checking tickets over there.

I think he did get hit, not nearly. I certainly did not mean to disparage him. I just thought, since he was not hurt, that it was funny.

I agree with SoCal except I would say "if all of your tickets are not being used" since, as some have pointed out, the owner of the seats may be there, but just bought extra seats to support the program. The folks that paid for these are an integral part of our program.

I have three ideas that I hope that SMU athletics adopts for Moody:

1. SMU needs to address the problem of the no shows to basketball games. I think that since we are capping the free students tickets at 750, we should make a line of students outside of moody. First come, first serve type deal. After the second time out, the students in line can fill in all the empty seats.

2. SMU nees to address the problems of empty suits at the games. How about allowing faculty, professional/graduate students, or recent alums to use them when they aren't being used.

3. Allow Miller Event Center to become more inclusive. While I understand that people in premium seating should use it before games and at halftime, how about allowing students and their guests to experience the Event Center during away games. Imagine if the Event Center became a sports bar type of environment during away games, so that we could cheer on our team. The Event Center could also be used for football away games, to keep SMU fans interested in SMU sports.

I accept you amendment So Cal - except I think most of them know they can turn tickets in - they just forget and don't think there is a downside to blowing it off. I say you could send that out a time or two and see if it works. If not - I think our program is to the point now that we can back fill those seats with people who come, and I would have no problem telling people they lost their seats because their tickets were not used more then ___% of the time. When people know there is a downside - then it changes behavior.

There's issues with each one. It's all driven by money. For example, you chose the suites to pick on. Why would you give a suite away just because it isn't being used? As a fan, I understand you wanting to see it filled. From the athletic department's perspective, what does that do for you? If you give it away, the other suite owners complain or try to knock down the price they are paying because they gave away the one next to them. If you give it away, others will get the same idea and not buy it hoping that come game day if it's not filled, they will give it away again. Lastly, most suites are under contract for a certain amount of time or games, even if it's not being used, it may be owned by a corporate sponsor, therefore you cannot just "give it away" even if it's not being used because it has been paid for.

I know it's frustrating, but this is big business. They don't field a basketball team because they love basketball, they field it because they make money.
