No, I have seen every game Nic has played for SMU (many of them in person). I'm not bashing Nic, but I think it is fair to assume Mudiay probably becomes the best PG on the roster the day he steps on campus. I'm not bashing Nic at all, he is a very good player and I think would get significant and meaningful minutes, I just don't see him as a starter. At the end of the day it's a good problem to have and I trust Larry to put the best combination of 5 at the start of the game to help us win.

I think while Nic is very capable of being a starter, Brown is inclined to start Mudiay since he is a one and done. If Brown is not able to develop the top recruits he brings in, then we won't be able to bring new ones in the future (Class of 2015 recruits are watching intently).

That is why the development of Keith Frazier is very important and has recently been somewhat problematic. SMU needs to show the top recruits, especially in the DFW, that they can help you get into the NBA.

I wonder how much Moore and Mudiay's games overlap. It seems to me quite a bit.

Watch Mudiay's highlights. He will be a deadly threat off the dribble and in isolation. He's a big combo guard IMO. You start Moore at the point and run the offense through Kennedy/Mudiay. We will be damn hard to stop.

The only problem with that is what if Mudiay came to SMU, so Larry Brown could teach him how to be a NBA ready point guard and not just a combo guard? As a combo guard, Mudiay will just be another combo guard, and not elite.

I think recruits are interested in Larry Brown, because they believe they can make them NBA ready. That is one of the benefits of having a previous NBA Champion coach. SMU can easily steal John Calipari/UK recruits because they can say while UK will help you get into the NBA, they won't help you develop into an elite NBA player with a good overall game. Most of Calpari recruits have ended up journey men or stars with huge flaws in their game.

Exactly what I said you haven't seen Nic enough I've seen him play over 100 games. They both will be in the starting backcourt next year.

I think that N Moore's destiny on next year's team is a super sixth man type who can handle the ball, create his own shot when the primary scorers are on the bench, and be a second ball-handler/shooter in crunch time. Ideally a 5'9 version of JET who still gets 25 or so MPG.

I think the really interesting decision to be made will be with our big men, especially Yanick. Mudiay is large, and seems likely to get to the rim with ease. Kennedy has established himself as a stud, and though he might not be the ideal big to pair with the Mudiay brand of PG, they'll both be on the court for the majority of the game barring injury. Saying that, I have big trouble envisioning Mudiay running any kind of offense with both Yanick and Kennedy on the floor. I think that bigs like Cunningham and B Moore stylistically fit better with Mudiay, especially if Moore develops some kind of jumper, and the talent drop-off (if it exists at all) may not be enough to keep them off the floor.

Nic and Mudiay will be the starting backcourt. Depending on who we're playing we could start three guards but I can't imagine any game where Nic and Mudiay don't start.

After watching Mudiay this weekend, I'm extremely confident in saying he will not be the starting PG next year. Nic Moore is the much better ball-handler and better decision maker and it's not even close. What Mudiay brings that Moore does not is size, explosiveness to the rim, and the ability to get his shot when he wants. He's is not a great jump-shooter but with Mudiay off the wing, it should free up looks for Moore.

The starting back-court will be Nic Moore at PG, Mudiay at SG. What gets more interesting is that if Keith Frazier progresses and becomes a better on ball defender/ball handler, I think you can start him at the 3 possibly. He has some length and size, that you could potentially start those three and go with a 3-guard line-up. But there's really no debate over starting Moore or Mudiay at the PG spot.

People need to throw rankings out the window the minute these kids step foot on campus. For one, rankings are incredibly inaccurate, especially with basketball. I talked to a few analysts and asked how Jalen Hudson was a 3-star. And one answer I got is nobody knows exactly how to rank these kids in basketball (that's coming from an analyst at a major recruiting service that we all pay attention to). He said there are a few talents that are clearly better than the others but after that, they start to look the same. I couldn't agree more. Some kids I saw looked much more impressive than others that were ranked much higher, and offer lists a lot of times coincided with that. The production also coincided with that feeling. You're just not comparing apples to apples in a lot of places. For example, Bates-Diop was the best shooter I saw at the event. He was 6-8, 7-2 wing span. But he didn't rebound extremely well, he's lanky, and he plays a lot on the perimeter. How do you rank him verse a guy that is 6'6, doesn't shoot that great from outside, but gets to the hole a lot, better ball-handler and ultimately puts up the same number of points in a high school game while they guard each other? Who's the better prospect at the collegiate level? They both will play the same position but two completely different types of players.

Another example, that Texas-commit forward (he's a top 100, 2014 kid) had 15 points in a high school game going against a kid (3*, 2015 kid) and he got all his points off put-backs and at the line. He didn't have many blocks and didn't change much defensively. The 2015 kid is the same height and had well over 20 points without fouling out and scored in a variety of ways. Safe to say that he will see a bump in his ranking and the Texas kid may drop, but if you only pay attention to the ranking right now, you would assume the Texas commit is much better even though Ahmad destroyed him. My brother had to point out the kid was a Texas commit, my jaw dropped as did the others around me.

I think people get sucked in, especially with Frazier to looking at a 5* McD's All-American. He got that ranking because he lit it up in the high school scene, he's 6'6, good athlete, and he's an elite shooter at that 18-21 foot range. But he doesn't handle the ball well, doesn't slash, is a liability on defense right now and the game hasn't slowed down for him yet at the next level. Sorry for the thesis, but looking at Mudiay and his ranking, it is easy for me to see why a fan thinks he comes in and is a better PG than Nic Moore not having seen him play. His profile says 6'5, PG, #2 player in the country. People read that and think he has to play PG but there's a better PG already on this team by a long-shot. He's got that ranking because he's explosive, will be the best athlete on the team, can jump out of the gym, has good handles for someone that is 6'5 and can make good passes. Hell, he didn't even run PG for PP if that tells you anything whatsoever.

If it is a question between Nic and Mudiay, Nic will start. Larry Brown likes experience and experience wins in college basketball.

Moreira did not have experience and he started. Best man starts regards period. I think both start. LB squashed that myth in an interview. Talent wins not age. If that is the case the Siena should beat Duke.
