Recruiting Ethics

So you're in the last year of your contract, a lame duck year. How actively do you go after players in that last recruiting year knowing that you may not be doing what's best for the kid in having him come to your school?

Who does that apply to? June has an extension beyond this year. He can honestly say that he has a contract to be here for most of their career.

Regardless, he is going to sign someone. Who is more likely to be cut by a new coach, a good player or a bad player? If he is worried about making sure that any players he signs do not have to transfer if he gets fired then he should sign the best players possible.

Where were his ethics when he was recruiting for asu while in contract for smu and with the money paid by the coc for a coach to recruit on behalf of smu?

I don't worry about recruiting anymore because can it really get any worse? Can there really be less effort put forth?

Yes, but those he does sign know that he's likely not going to be here past their freshman year and accept that.

I'm sure we'll have a stellar 2015 class already in the works for the new coach once we fire June

All athletic scholarships are year to year. So kids that get recruited by Coach A are concerned they won't be the guy of Coach B.
I think the top of this years class doesn't have to worry about being run off by Coach B when JJ leaves in 14. But the bottom of the class does... Just like in any year.

Kids who don't develop have to be model students - ie contribute to the teams APR- to keep their scholarships. Happens all the time - kid they were hoping would be good doesn't pan out and if he is a model student he stays with the program - if he stubs his toe - see ya .

It's why our failure to make the change now is going to cripple this program even further. You're kidding yourself if you think a staff that hasn't recruiting well the last two years is suddenly going to step up the effort in recruiting when they know they won't be back.

Yep. It's a real Catch 22. We can't help but take the recruiting hit. Too expensive to buy JJ out -- well, unless there's a post signing day shocker in the works and we have the money.
