This might be my favorite SMU game of all time. Anyone who has read accounts of it cannot deny that it was certainly one of the most exciting games EVER. My dad was there that night (I believe it was played on Friday) and raved about it ever afterward.

Like the piece says, Navy won every game it played except for the two played in the Cotton Bowl. That lead to the slogan "Undefeated in 49 states."

Love that Johnny Roderick. Last I heard he was a fishing guide on Lake Quitman. Anybody know where he is and what he is up to?

Beating Staubach and earning an eventual Sun Bowl bid with a 4-6 team was quite a feat. I was there and don't ever remember being more excited, except maybe when the pony express began to dominate UT.
