I can't help but think the S-M-U chant on offense would work really well if it was done the same way as (same tempo and build up) the Let's-Go-Duke chant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOdi8mA6THE

I really love what the mob is doing, and the students are bringing it big time. But there is something really special about when the students get their chant going in unison. Pauley (UCLA) actually has student yell leaders that help keep the students organized on different offensive chants and stand near the front of the student section during the game. If it were me I'd keep it simple with:

Offense: "S-M-U, S-M-U, S-M-U...." & "let's go mustangs clap-clap-clap-clap-clap"
Defense: "oooooooo" & "defense, clap-clap...defense, clap-clap"

Wish I could be a part of it haha, I think you guys can be the first to create a legit student section, and starting #TheMob was a great start.

Up to them to make themselves relevant.

Had same discussion last night. A year ago you could hear every word a band member said. Now they just play and watch cause it's too loud everywhere else. Not a knock on them, just that they've been usurped. I sit 25 feet away from the band and only hear them when they are playing. Hope they don't have hurt feelings.

Was thinking this same thing. The band almost looks disinterested now, as though they have no role. What a wonderful, wonderful time this is

Best College Basketball Chants - on the Let's Go Duke link - shows some good ones. I can see The Mob getting this going.
It might take organizing a (pardon the term) "yell practice" for students at Moody to teach something like UCLA - or any of the others shown in that youtube clip - but it would be really cool - and something that has never been done at SMU in any sport. You want to be prepared for TV and not look like Ned in the first reader - so it would need to be taught/rehearsed to get it going right. Larry Brown could email the time and place to learn and practice this ritual. I believe everybody in attendance would follow suit - even the cane and walker crowd.

It used to be up to the band to cheer. Historically they deserve a break. I won a free laundry day from some place because I was the loudest person one day. There were like 300 people so didn't really do too much. Mohawk probably helped.

Oh, hell no. Every time he starts that crap, it makes the Mavs games unwatchable. If the PA guy has to tell you when to cheer, your team isn't doing anything worth cheering for. We have a damn good team, an exciting team. The new PA guy is fantastic and doesn't need to turn into an idiotic sideshow.

How come none of the hot Kappas/Thetas/Future MILFs are ever cheerleaders? They are our university's greatest treasure. We should showcase them.

They wouldn't even have to cheer, just stand there and look hot.

No offense to current students supporting the team,, but if we got TCU-style dancers at basketball games the experience would be even more off the charts than it already is.

We'd have to lower our admission standards to get girls like that in

We have girls like that and better, just not on the spirit teams.

yes, if it becomes "cool" the pom squad will get hotter. Cheerleaders are basically glorified gymnasts.
If you could get Theta & Kappa hot on the pom - would be like USC's song girls...

I find it hard to believe we can't find 15-20 So Cal smoke shows who cheered in high school to try out for the team.
