for the record, not "ripping" on Phillips. Appreciate that he's been the one person to put forth any sort of effort on this entire staff. I just don't think he can have an impact on this program in its current place.

Who said everyone agrees he is our most aggressive recruiter? At Lamar high school he is. Mexmustang says it's Mason.

Jason Phillips is a keeper. A great recruiter with wonderful relationships with Houston area coaches.
Let's hope the coach in 2015 decides to keep him on board.

He usually does to a few recruits this time of year. Mostly those who have already committed to us.

JasonB said it, it was right there in the post you quoted.

Re: Jason Phillips
I like Jason Phillips and I think he gets excessive criticism that others deserve to share. However, he has been caught with his pants down on a long list of recruits-and this is coming from a guy who has defended him. He maybe following the protocol of June Jones recruiting in contacting recruits through high school coaches though. Once again we have two realities-one from those exclusively on ponyfans and one who have access to recruiting quotes from Rivals and Scout. What I can say without hesitation is that SMU's entire recruiting program is crap. People have been fired who never should have been hired. Others need to go now. It is so infested from the very top with laziness, bad strategy and poor performance that its time the entire staff needs to be rooted out and sent on their way.

Re: Jason Phillips
So what you are saying is that once again Jones has to change the culture, but this time from within.

No, everyone on this staff needs to go
Every. Single. Coach.
I like Phillips, aside from Mumme, he was the only one who I thought was worth anything, but the culture is so infested with mediocrity and laziness that we can't afford to keep anything related to June around (including his tiki helmet stickers, make em horse shoes)

I agree. 100% housecleaning needs to happen. This has gotten ridiculous.

Keeping Phillips is a good thing, and having him out on the trail with JJ is a good thing. Chances are we'll lose someone and steal someone. It happens at this time of year.
Let's just hope JJ can develop more of a relationship with local high school coaches.
After 6 years there is no evidence that he even tries to develop high school coach relationships. A contract extension does not cause a zebra to change it's stripes.
Re: Jason Phillips
I don't believe any former players are very fond of Phillips. Very knowledgeable of the game but an idiot when it comes to communication skills and motivating players.

Re: Jason Phillips
Cue Bergermeister to come to Jones' defense with one hit & run post.
Jones needs to be fired when we are eliminated from bowl contention following our 7th loss. Rip the band aid off ASAP. Let mason show his stuff so that he may get another job or maybe a HC position somewhere else.
New staff in 2015 led by Chad Morris. I wouldn't be surprised if we already have a gentleman's agreement with Morris now.

I'm surprised Morris wasn't snatched up by Vandy or Wake. I still contend he'll have better options when SMU calls him
