A $2.5 million gift to Southern Methodist University from Carolyn and David Miller will help build a $4 million campus center at SMU-in-Taos in New Mexico.
The 423-acre SMU-in-Taos campus opened in 1973 and is now a 28-building campus. Its courses take advantage of the setting as students dig at archaeological sites, create artwork inspired by nature and study biotic communities that thrive at varied altitudes. Students earn course credit during three summer terms and a January term that was added this year.
Participation in summer terms has increased more than 40 percent in the last three years.
