Blah! Blah! Blah!

You are comparing June Jones' performance to a period during which SMU had an admission Model that June Jones has said he never would have accepted-he would never have taken this damn job under those conditions. Your argument is irrelevant. Look at my list of non-BCS schools above-add in Baylor-add in TCU if you want to go back to the Franchione period. You don't think those schools generally had similiar perception problems to overcome

Your argument boils down to this. Changes in the model meant that many coaches could have done what June did in taking SMU football from perennial cellar dweller to reasonable respectability. That's a fair argument, but one that I think ignores the fact that JJ pulled off a similar turnaround at his previous stop. But maybe you're right. Maybe Paul Johnson, for instance, could have done the same June did in changing the culture and expectations here.

I'm especially calling out you -PONYBOY-for acting like June Jones was a miracle worker and changed the admission Model when you spent an entire decade with your usual program suck-up criticism to anybody who suggested making the exact same changes a decade earlier. The C of C after many years of criticism insisted on making those changes not June Jones

Haha. You really are impossible. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and presenting your argument in the best possible light and STILL you have to resort to ad hominem attacks.

No doubt, JJ did some good things here but he did not truly turn us around. He just finished year six below .500 playing one of the weakest conference schedules ever, our fan support is as low as I can ever remember, recruiting is as bad as I can ever remember, and there is no reason to believe next year will be any better. Had he continued to build on the the success of years two and three we were well on our way to a TCU like comeback but by his own missteps, we have regressed back to where we were when he took the job.

You lost me at that last half sentence. We had a precipitous climb out of the basement and have plateaued. We are nowhere near where we came from.

I'll remind everyone, June Jones is done here. He needs to go. I just think we ought to give him a hearty handshake rather than a kick in the backside.

well 5-7 is not 1-11 true but perhaps he is just on his way to mirroring Phil Bennett's last three years of 5-6, 6-6, 1-11?

A year ago, I would have agreed. I'm not sure why he feels the need to stick around for 2014 though- he doesn't want to be here, he's not recruiting for [deleted], and he's just putting our next coach in a deeper hole in terms of talent he'll be able to put on the field. June is stealing money from SMU at this point

Or perhaps, dr rc, he's on his way to an eleven win season like 2006 in Hawaii, one year after winning five games.

I think the chances of us winning 11 games next year with this team are about as good as me winning the powerball.

Ponyboy, where would June be without the PB recruits he inherited?

Emmanuel Sanders, Aldrick Robinson, Cole Beasley and the ENTIRE offensive line of Beachum, LeRiebus, Tennison, Turner and JT Brooks.

with the exception of DJ3 and JJ, the smu WR's have been really poor.

The recruiter responsible for JG and T Reed (Hundley), was only at SMU for 1 year I beleive before he split and JJ replaced him with an old NFL buddy.

Im happy for what JJ did in getting us to respectability and appreciate that. But the program is on such a downward trend its scary.

You're satisfed with 6-6, but dont you relaize the potential of this program with a coach that puts his all into it? Just see basketball, because thats the model we need to follow.

Probably true, MM. But I do bet we go bowling as June's swan song.

I am NOT satisfied with 6 wins. This program is NOT on a downward trend -- we are plateaued. Unless the cupboard is just completely bare, all coaches rely on their predecessors' recruits.
