Eight wins in 2009
Seven wins in 2010
Eight wins in 2011
Seven win in 2012
Five wins in 2013

One season does not a downward trend make.

Who knows? Trending downward but came close to going to a bowl again this year even though this was supposed to be a much harder conference. Who would have thought it would be so weak so fast and then adding Tulsa who was really bad only one year after winning CUSA. Central Florida is only upward trending football program I can think of offhand. So I wouldn't be surprised if they get on a run and "steal a few on the road and at home this year" and go to a bowl. Thank goodness they are not in CUSA. UNT game will be a good test of where SMU football is headed

Pony boy - I appreciate you defending June Jones. I too was a giant defender until Tulane last year. At that point, I just had enough. I understand a whole lot of what he did with the culture when he first got here. He suspended some players and ran others off. I understand how his laid back personality is really, really beneficial to a turnaround situation. He should be thanked for making SMU football stable, but there is an old rule with turnaround guys. The first person to get fired when the turnaround is complete is the turnaround guy. It is time to remove the turnaround guy and bring in the builder. That is the natural progression in any business situation. College Football is big business.

As far as your 60 second summary, I would add a couple of things. I think other posters have mentioned the other big ones.
1. His teams continually play with a complete lack of discipline (this goes back to Hawaii). Look at the ridiculous number of penalties and personal fouls. This has ended our drives and helped other teams' drive continue. They have cost us games.
2. Last year he had his first effective offense while at SMU, strange for an offensive mastermind. However, it was still one of the worst (in FBS) in red zone effectiveness. Meaning we were really great getting to the red zone, but once there... Too many missed FGs. Which brings us to...
3. Special teams - if you take out the blocked kicks in the first couple of years - they have been terrible since day one (especially kick/punt coverage teams). We had some bright spots, but I think we can all agree that they have been/are sub par.
4. He has cut off all communication with fans - no more lunches, happy hours...etc.
Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall

Every word you write is reasonable. I have no argument with any of it. I particularly like the quote "the first guy to get fired when the turnaround is complete is the turnaround guy." That is absolute truth, regrettably.

It doesn't have to be so. Yes, he needs to go. No, we don't have to invent facts and get a lynch mob together to make it happen. It's time to move on. Thank you June Jones. Next coach please.

I posted this exact stat a few weeks ago. Particularly sad when you realize a good chunk/majority of those wins are against the absolute worst teams in D1 football.

How do you come to the conclusion that the majority were against the worst D1 teams? Gut feel?

If JJ finds a way to get this team to win 11 games next year with our schedule and roster, he deserves an apology from everyone and a lifetime contract. Would love to see it but realistically I expect 2014 to be a long, painful football season for SMU as we all look forward to next year's hoops team.

Well cusa is one of the worst conferences around, without a doubt. Most of our wins were against teams with losing records, many of those were teams with 0-4 wins.

Therefore, most of our wins were against the worst teams in d1.

17 of our 31 FBS wins from 2009-2013 came against teams that finished with 4 or fewer wins.

Wonder how many wins came against teams with similar records from 1989-2008?

June gets credit for hiring Mason. That's it. His offense has not been as productive as the Rusty Burns offense was under Bennett. The major difference is defense.
