this ain't 1990. The 2015 recruiting season is well under way and a bunch of kid have already committed. About 60% of the top players in the Class of 2015 will be committed by the end of March -10 months before signing date. SMU and June have squared off into a lame duck period which could result in the 4th straight well below average Class in 2015. In this day and age a school can not afford to sit out the 2015 recruiting class until a new Coach is named.

Yeah, the wheels are coming off for Patterson in Fort Worth. His recruiting class is abysmal by Big 12 standards (although still considerably better than ours). Tough to compete against OU, Texas, Okie State, a resurgent Briles at Baylor, and Kingsbury at Tech for recruits when Patterson isn't a great recruiter and he can't out-coach the big boys like they're Colorado State or Air Force. It will be funny to see how the TCU brass react when the heat gets turned up on GP. They've elevated him to deity status over there...hopefully we'll have a competent coach in place at this time

Rivals is largely picking up noise because of the small TCU class. On Scout TCU has the No. 40 Class and smack dang in the middle of the Big 12 in average per recruit. TCU still is the favorite for a 5 star(sister runs track at TCU) and needs to get Ty Barrett back. If they do that its still among the top half of the TCU Classes in Patterson era-. TCU was never going to outrecruit Texas or OU. Neither did Baylor. Right now TCU has 7 recruits in Midlands Top 150 plus a JUCO who chose TCU over Texas and a JUCO who chose TCU over OU plus the 5A Player of the Year plus a former 4 star TCU starter whose coming back from BYU. That would be a quality Class. They have about 12 recruits better than the best SMU recruit. The gap is getting bigger not smaller. It wouldn't be among the Top Classes in the Big 12 but it would be competitive if they keep Barrett and close on the 5 star

I don't think anyone here would argue your last point, but TCU has had several defections from their class and it sounds like Braden Smith is wide open with Auburn and A&M. Yeah they're recruiting better than the likes of Iowa State or Kansas but that's not going to cut it for them if they want to be anything better than a middle of the pack (at best) Big 12 program. Patterson is not the coach Art Briles is and he can't outcoach teams with the kind of talent that Texas, OU, and Okie State have week in and week out like he did in the MWC.

Correction: Right now TCU is 40th on Scout in Total Points and 29th in Average Per Recruit w/o Braden Smith and w/o Ty Barrett. Nobody really knows what Braden Smith will do because he refuses to talk to any recruiting services. They have been the favorites though and are in the Top 3.

Having his sister there certainly helps TCU, but if you're going on OVs to Auburn and A&M with Malzahn and Sumlin and then you go to TCU with Patterson that's tough to compete.

I'd be the first one to welcome Patterson to SMU if he and June were fired the same year.

We are getting smoked in recruiting by our former SWC now Big 12 teams.
4-5 years ago we were competitive with the bottom half of the BU, TTU, TCU classes. Now we might pick up one or two guys that they want only after they lose some recruits.

We have better talent but the gap has widened.

Good news though.... If we had a coach that recruited, with street cred ( ie Butch Davis), we could again be competitive. Why? Because we are in a league where we can win, have competitive facilities, and the best recruiting area in the country.

I've always thought butch would be a nice hire, but not a chance after the way he left UNC.

Regardless, I don't know if our admin really cares to bring in anyone good. I guess we'll find out (hopefully) next year

Fatterson would never leave TCWho to go to SMU...no matter how much we pay him (well maybe that could make him change his mind )

We'll see two years from now. Look at the BCS offers for UCF and you will see that they are not too shabby plus they will add more. I think we might be pretty close to full. So your smart alec sarcasm is a joke. What is SMU like 93rd with almost half the class with no D1A offers?
