Moody was Barnhill South before Reunion even opened. The first SWC Tournament was played in Moody not Reunion. They used to fill Moody every year to the rafters including with the Triplets- Moncrief, Brewer and Delph They just transferred the name to Reunion later

But wouldn't be surprised to see a game with Richmond in the future. Richmond has 6 Texas kids on the roster with 4 of the 6 from the D/FW area. They have 2 players from Highland Park, 1 player from Dallas Hillcrest, and Nancy Leiberman's kid who went to Plano West
Could do home-and-home with Richmond. They just finished a beautiful renovation of the Robins Center.

Likewise, TCU -- Big 12 and former SWC (plus it's our most natural rival). NC State puts a third major conference on the schedule.
Richmond would be a great addition. They are historically a sound team and would likely help our RPI.
I assume we will pick up a decent opponent or two during the holiday tournaments.
My question for the basketball experts: How should a team balance it's non-conference schedule between tune-up games and RPI builders?
IMHO, with all due respect to the AAC, SMU needs to schedule solid teams on the non-conference with a few big gets. I'm talking maybe traveling to Texas, Oklahoma State or Oklahoma, whatever it takes to get them on the schedule. To put that in perspective, if you lose on the road, it likely doesn't hurt you. If you win, it's a quality win OOC and big resume booster. It needs to be upgraded in a serious way next year because there's only three other tournament quality teams in the conference year-in year-out starting next year. I think you will see UConn bump up their OOC scheduling, as will Cinci. It doesn't need to be murderer's row, but you need to add opponents that give you the chance at big wins, and then schedule opponents you should beat but also help your RPI Top 100 wins. Scheduling will really be tricky with the AAC simply because Rutgers, UCF, USF, ect don't do anything but possibly hurt you. Winning those games are expected, losing can be devastating moving forward. Need to take the Memphis OOC scheduling approach, they had 3 huge games out of conference. They won one of them and you can bet your butt it will help them in March for seeding seeing that they beat Okie State. Florida was another chance to help them even though they lost, and that loss won't hurt them.

I agree in the 3 OOC tournament quality teams. Actually we did that this year with UVA, Arkansas, and a combination of A&M and Wyoming. Next year we have Arkansas, NC State and we will probably play in a OOC tournament that has a tournament quality team in it so I believe we are okay.

Memphis also hosts Gonzaga on Feb. 8.

I wonder if we could do something cool like the preseason NIT at MSG?

LB said that he was trying to schedule Kentucky, and I'm pretty sure that it was almost a done deal and then Mudiay signed. He said at the tip off luncheon he wasn't sure if that was going to get done anymore.
Also he has made comments that he tries to play Texas schools, but none of them want to play us.

If SMU is going to play a school like Kentucky, bet it would be at the AAC instead of Moody Coliseum. If SMU continues to trend upward like they are currently. Might not have a choice, but to play a couple of games at the AAC.

[deleted] them. Seriously. This isn't football, we don't need to schedule Baylor or Tech to draw a crowd. I'd rather play ACC, Pac-12, Big Ten teams.

Would like to see SMU in the Legends Tournament. Play 1st two rounds against low rpi (crap teams) at Moody Coliseum. Then play the semifinals/finals in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center against quality opponents (Big 10, Big East, Big 12, ACC, Pac-12). . . Larry Brown goes home to Brooklyn. The game's promoter should be all over that.

I'm with you on that one. I like seeing us take on the old SWC in football, but with basketball I'd rather see some perennial tournament teams on the schedule. (I would thoroughly enjoy a Baylor match-up though...) Not that I'd say no to anyone. I'm feeling a bit over-confident; I say we play anyone that wants to give us their best shot. I have faith that we'll get some quality OOC games in the next few years.

OBF, maybe we can schedule a game with Ohio State since that is where M. Turner may end up anyway. It would be a return home game for him and that would make it more likely for Ohio State to do it. If Turner signs with Ohio State I would try to do this.
