I guess I have to say it again.
I think they all have been a better league for about 20 years which attracts BETTER recruits.
May the forth be with us.

Apples and oranges. The swc was leaps and bounds much tougher than cusa or the AAC.

Yes. Analogous to the Big 12.

I would take us being over .500 year in and year out with the current big 12. We can't compete with them. We got blown out by the toads, and got beat at home in the first game of the season by tortilla tech and a redshirt frosh. If we can't hack it in the AAC in football, I'm not sure there is a team we could beat with any confidence in the b12, and that includes Kansas. And I don't know if we can really say our trajectory is on the upward swing.

We'd be bottom feeders in any power conference. No question. I think the AAC is right for our football team right now (unfortunately). As exciting as the basketball developments are, it just doesn't happen that fast in football. (For a number of practical and institutional reasons...) It's probably time to re-evaluate and re-direct our football team, but we have to remember that on a 10 year (or even 20 year) scale we are moving in the right direction. It'll be a shame if we backslide some the next five years, but although the next couple might be particularly rough I think the overall trend upward will continue. Call me optimistic.

Our current Football squad cannot compete in Big 12 conference at all. The toads are an elite team compared to ours and look mediocre or worse in that conference. My post was drawing a scenario in which SMU never got the DP and therefore joined Big 12 conference (which I may argue would have taken Texas, Aggy, Tortilla and SMU instead of Baylor...) Then we would be in upper middle of the pack like Oklahoma State, Kansas State. But with June's current squad, we would get destroyed.

I think TCU will bounce back, though never to the levels they've experienced in the last 15 years or so. Baylor would also be our model if we were in a P5.
I agree with others that times were relatively sweet as an average 6-5 type team in a "BCS" conference. We are now a slightly above average team in a second tier conference. Time to go out and hire the next guy and dominate the AAC if there will ever be any hope of rejoining our seventy-year-long place at the table with the big boys.

The SWC was waaay stronger than the Big 12 ever was even with the 4 that left. The SWC disbanded itself because they wanted to merge with Big 8, but they rejected the plan and only wanted to take 4 or less Texas schools. Anne Richards forced the publics to take BU with them...but we would have been the prime choice had the DP not happened to us...we would have been the USC of Texas. I still don't agree with their view of not taking any more Texas schools because of the whole "expanding to other states/markets". There's no other high value markets left that the Big 12 could expand to, so they should just jump to 16 members and take us in. Big 12 South: Texas Texas Tech SMU TCU Baylor Oklahoma Oklahoma State Houston Big 12 North: Iowa State Kansas Kansas State West Virginia Louisville UConn Cincinnati Boise State ------ If we can't dominate the AAC, and be ranked in the top 25 continuously as well as getting the bid for the new BCS games, then we should just flush our dreams of joining a P5 and follow basketball or pro sports. It is IMPERATIVE that we start winning AAC Championships.

Definitely not true in the late 80's early 90's. The SWC disbanded itself because they wanted to merge with Big 8, but they rejected the plan and only wanted to take 4 or less Texas schools. Anne Richards forced the publics to take BU with them...
Bob Bullock forced them to take BOTH of Tech and BU after UT nixed the 16 team idea. but we would have been the prime choice had the DP not happened to us...
SMU certainly would have been in the hunt. If SMU doesn't crater though who knows if Arky leaves as quickly as they do? There's a million variables to the "if the DP didn't happen" scenario. we would have been the USC of Texas. I still don't agree with their view of not taking any more Texas schools because of the whole "expanding to other states/markets". Not happening, especially that last one. Big 12 North: Iowa State Kansas Kansas State West Virginia

Grant of rights ties them to the ACC until the mid 2020's... ship has sailed. UConn Cincinnati
Iffy at best Boise State
I'd be shocked. If we can't dominate the AAC, and be ranked in the top 25 continuously as well as getting the bid for the new BCS games, then we should just flush our dreams of joining a P5 and follow basketball or pro sports.

Told you BU, you just have to ignore CK. Why the mods haven't banned him, I have no idea. Smoopower claims he's lazy, so that might be it.

FTH was crying in his crib the day the SWC imploded-so he wanted to make sure to offer another opinion on a topic he knows nothing about
