The post mortum on the JJ era is:
JJ came to SMU, brought a better staff and turned around a reasonably talented but poorly coached team after implementing his system. Going 1-11 was disappointing and maybe unnecessary given he ran off his senior QB largely because he "wasn't his guy".
JJ finds success in year 2 and expects the top Texas talent to flock to his doorstep. He had good recruiters on staff - Klemm, Reinboldt - but couldn't land the top Texas talent. Stayed in the mid major talent pool.
JJ builds on the success in year 3 but still can't turn the corner against quality teams. Frustration sets in, blame is sought - lack of fan support is the reason for mediocre teams. He looks for the exit.
Exit comes in year 4 in the form of ASU. JJ's incompetent agent + JJ's desperation to leave expose the ASU deal before it is inked. Ugh oh! Now what? No other school wants to pay me $2 million a year. I'm stuck.
Assistant coaches see the SS June has hit an iceberg and start leaving - Klemm, Reinboldt - and thankfully Jason Phillips becomes available or recruiting would have come to a complete halt.
Unhappy, pay check drawing, get me out of here, calendar watching head coach draws his salary during years 5 and 6.
SMU doesn't have the funding to buy him and his staff out so we endure the 2 year death watch.
Announces his resignation at the end of 2014.

Reinebold left for a different reason and not of his own accord. But otherwise, that's pretty good.

How do you come to the conclusion that the majority were against the worst D1 teams? Gut feel?

Well cusa is one of the worst conferences around, without a doubt. Most of our wins were against teams with losing records, many of those were teams with 0-4 wins.

Therefore, most of our wins were against the worst teams in d1.

QED.

Saying that most of our wins were against "the worst teams in D1" is not really saying anything other than we played in a mid-tier conference in CUSA. Not really very helpful or insightful -- or even true since there were and are lower level conferences in D1 than CUSA. Look to Sagarin if you want to see how quality our wins were. It takes everything into account. Look to Sagarin.

Sagarin says we were the No. 102 team in the county. Feel better?

I'm not trying to argue we are good or bad. I am simply pointing out that subjective and unsupported statements that JJ's wins were against the dregs of Div I are just that, subjective and unsupported. Sagarin's the best we have to determine how good this team is -- or not in the case of 2013.
