This thread really makes me wonder how on earth June was so successful at Hawaii (a tough place to recruit to despite it's scenery) with such lax recruiting?

the only decent teams they played that year were Boise (10-3) and Fresno (9-4) and both games were in Hawaii. Everyone else finished 6-7 (Nevada) or worse. Their OOC was a joke with FBS schools Washington (4-9) and UNLV (2-10) both being awful along with two bad FCS schools in Charleston Southern (5-6) and Northern Colorado (1-11).

Obviously the 2007 team played cupcakes but in 2006 they played teams like Oregon State, Purdue, and Alabama in the regular season on top of league games vs Fresno and Boise and the bowl vs AzState. In 2005 they faced USC, Michigan State, and Wisconsin in the regular season. 2004 had Northwestern and Michigan State and 2003 had USC & Bama.

So I don't think it was purely schedule related. It's just really surprising considering how he won there and he's not dramatically improving his talent despite having a TON more access to capable recruits now.

BU he's not getting better talent because

A. He doesn't want better talent. He wants to prove everyone just how smart and innovative his 1980's "communist" offense (as he has referred to it at times) is.

B. He is too lazy to do the recruiting, or hire a staff that will, and hopes that kids will just come to him

C. He's completely clueless on how to recruit since he's never really had to do it

D. All of the above

I will be tweeting then all at rick hart (I started two days ago) You can scope it on my twitter BOP_Mustang which is literally devoted to just tweeting these articles to Hart if you want a thread (granted they are pay articles mostly). So if you see me tweeting at Hart with an article, if you don't have a pay site subscription, you'll know it's the same content

To me, the team I support is the players and the name on the front of that jersey, so while I have several unanswered questions, I don't dislike the coaching staff as much as you do. However, I do need to give credit where credit is due: to you. Hats off to you, blackoutpony, for doing something proactive. I don't know Mr. Hart or how he operates, whether he reads his Twitter page, whether someone does it for him, but at least you're sending your thoughts to the man in charge, rather than crying on here. We all want to see things done better, and see more wins, but the constant whining here and rehashing of old insults gets nothing done other than to make SMU and its fans look embarrassingly weak. I hope your efforts to reach Mr. Hart pan out.
