^^Agreed. I would love someone to point out a recruit that we've picked up since then that would even compare to these WR's and RB natural abilities. And we can't give any credit to JJ for that either. That was 100% Connor Preston and A Klemm (stud)

Morrison recruited Conner.

Where did the rumors of Phillips departure come from? Was this posted in another thread that I just missed or was it posted on another board? Just curious...

It was posted by a reliable source which is why I am still hesitant to believe he is not gone.

Reading the Scout recruiting report posted in another thread gives credence to the fact he is still with us.

He had at least a 2 hour recruiting meeting with our latest recruit about Monday or Tuesday and also met with Shelby Walker this week. He's still with SMU at the present moment

Come on Stallion, you're way better than that. It was well known, especially among guys like me that don't follow football recruiting that closely, that Cal was Harper's top choice by a mile. He was even on record as saying "if they offer...". People can argue over Lewis, but his commit was always posted on the board with well-worn Scotch Tape. Perhaps a better staff keeps him. Marks, that was a black eye.

That is disgraceful. When you cheer for your own team to lose, no matter what the reason, you lose the right to complain. The whole reason we're here, and the reason we go to games, is because we're SMU FANS, right? Nobody anywhere thinks everything is done in a perfect way, but when you openly root for your team to lose, that's like rooting for your kid to fail math class.

Perhaps what he really meant is that the silver lining to them losing will be that it's one step closer to a fresh start.

Stallion wrote:I like Jason Phillips and I think he gets excessive criticism that others deserve to share. However, he has been caught with his pants down on a long list of recruits-and this is coming from a guy who has defended him. He maybe following the protocol of June Jones recruiting in contacting recruits through high school coaches though. Once again we have two realities-one from those exclusively on ponyfans and one who have access to recruiting quotes from Rivals and Scout. What I can say without hesitation is that SMU's entire recruiting program is crap. People have been fired who never should have been hired. Others need to go now. It is so infested from the very top with laziness, bad strategy and poor performance that its time the entire staff needs to be rooted out and sent on their way.
As we all know I don't always agree with Stallion and we have had our differences but he has intelligently followed recruiting very closely for many years, spends a lot of his personal time following all recruiting sites on behalf of SMU and I totally agree and respect with what he says here.

calm yourself.. he's still an SMU fan, prolly a bigger one than you. sometimes something bad has to happen in order for something good to happen. i would rather we lose so the coach gets fired so we actually start to see some damn progress in recruiting and in talent. until then we're just rotting.

I agree. Nothing disgraceful about wanting the best long term outcome for the program and not worrying about whether or not we beat Tulane.
Also, in case you haven't figured this out, "cheering against" smu has zero influence on whether they win or not. So what you want doesn't matter. Surprising, I know.
