We Need to Be RealBret Shipp would not have asked that question and got the ball rolling if he did not have some tangible proof. He is a senior reporter with a tenured job, he would not go out on a limb like this if he was not pretty sure. Unfortunately, you have to assume the story is true.
This should ultimately not affect SMU on the court with the eligible players, it will be on Kimball and the DISD. But, we have to realize Frazier will probably never play for SMU again and this could jeopardize Mudiay to SMU because of the scrutiny. Kind of Sucks, but this is the reality. We will have to deal with it. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: We Need to Be RealNo. Not at all.
Re: We Need to Be RealYou realize Mudiay has signed his LOI right? How would this possibly affect him? He's locked into his scholarship unless LB releases him from now on...
I do realize this could seriously affect Frazier's eligibility, but it has no bearing on Mudiay in the least. And ultimately, it won't affect the basketball team and getting to the post-season. If there's a real issue, make KF suspended indefinitely for the rest of the season, otherwise it's a non-issue.
Re: We Need to Be Real
I do know that, Prime Prep though is under all kinds of scrutiny, SMU may have to pass if the pressure stays on Prime Prep and the Frazier debacle come to fruition. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: We Need to Be RealUnless SMU changed the grade somehow, there is nothing the NCAA can do.
Re: We Need to Be Real
Overreaction much? We have absolutely no idea what he is alleging/who he is even talking about. Let's say its Keith and DISD. He's done it before (Arthur at South Oak Cliff) and guess what, nothing happened to Kansas. He came out, made a splash, wrote an article and everything, but guess what, there wasnt enough tangible proof to do anything. There is a difference between throwing out suspicious facts, etc in an article and being able to prove that grades were changed to the point where a person is ineligible. If the person in question is Keith, he was cleared by the NCAA, and SMU will be fine. To say at this stage he won't play again is waaayyyy premature. To say this has any affect on Mudiay is ludicrous. Mudiay wants to play for Brown, that only changes if Brown does something wrong, which hasn't happened, and like a poster has already mentioned, he already signed his LOI to the school. Breathe and take a step back.
Re: We Need to Be Real
You can't just pull a scholarship like that after Mudiay has already signed. 1a in this instance does not affect 1b. They are unrelated and would have no bearing on Mudiay. The pressure will be on PP because everyone knows that it's the bare minimum of academic standards, so that isn't leaving anytime soon. And you take the #2 player in the country regardless of the controversy 100% of the time, especially if you're SMU. Any team in the country would.
Re: We Need to Be RealThe only problems that could arise is if the State of Texas or the NCAA de-certified Prime Prep. Cross that bridge when we come to it-but not now

Re: We Need to Be RealNot aimed at Stallion. He's been factual. But we need to avoid conspiracy theory now of all times. Please do not theorize. Assume the best.
Re: We Need to Be Realnot speculation-the State of Texas is investigating Prime Prep

Re: We Need to Be RealBrett seemed to think coach Ulric calling kimball asking how Frazier's grade could improve means SMU was involved in grade changing. Aside from the investigation, the involvement by SMU seems to baseless hearsay at this point. Any legal professionals take the same thing away from the report?
Re: We Need to Be RealI'm a lawyer and based on what was shown tonight you are 100% correct. It's just hearsay and in my opinion BS journalism to try to make the link that SMU had something to do with it based on UM just asking on how he can improve his grades.
Re: We Need to Be Realyes since its hearsay and a mere conclusion with no supporting evidence -its legally "no evidence". But I'll wait

Re: We Need to Be RealThe post game tactics used by Shipp were sleazy at best. Larry Brown answered all his questions thoughtfully, quickly & directly, but when Larry asked him to what or whom he was referring, Shipp could only whimper a weak, mealy mouth half-response. It proves he was desperately groping for an attack on SMU and had no real evidence, even despite the report later on Ch 8 about the DISD audit.
Re: We Need to Be Real
What did the report on Ch 8 say?
