Clearly it does if he was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

do we know that to be factually true?

I just don't see how that would trump graduating from HS? Especially if that's required by the NCAA?
Not sure if graduating high school is required. . . Tony Mitchell of NTCC didn't graduate from Pinkston. Did have to sit out & pay his first year at NTCC

Mitchell was ineligible at Missouri his first year. Entered UNT as a non qualifier without a scholarship
I re-read article. Changed grade was in physics-no mention of what courses Frazier took during summer school. SMU hasn't responded until it gets official DISD report

That's why I said there is no reason, as of right now, to suspend Frazier. SMU should look into this and see if it is on the level. Suspending him now is an admission of guilt with no evidence. Surely the SID is on this right now.

Following the 07-08 season, Derrcik Rose's SAT score was invalidated. The following year the NCAA declared him retroactively ineligible and vacated the U of Memphis 07-08 season.
This is not a perfect parallel. Rose took the SAT three times in his hometown of Chicago and each time failed to get a qualifying score. "He" then took the SAT in Detroit and made a qualifying score. He failed to cooperate with the ETS investigation into his Detroit test.
As I recall, the NAACP felt the that the curious SAT scores should have raised a red flag at Memphis. All's well that ends well. Rose is a gazillionaire and his coach got the head job at Kentucky.
Keith should focus on rehabbing his ankle while this works itself out.
One additional point, I've watched a number of the pre-season and post-game interviews with the players. While some of them likely suffer from attending a high school with poor academics, in their interviews they showed the native intelligence needed to succeed at SMU with the academic support they are getting.

First, Keith Frazier was not eligible when he received his alleged grade change. He was first required to attend Summer school, which he completed. Next, he was required to retake the SAT in order to obtain a passing score per NCAA rules. Keith passed. The SAT is not administered by DISD. Second, eligibility for participation in NCAA sports is controlled by the NCAA clearinghouse. SMU does not control that process. Only after the NCAA clears the athlete can he actually receive a scholarship. A "Letter of Intent" is not binding until the athlete is cleared by the NCAA. Keith Frazier was cleared by the NCAA after he completed Summer school and obtained an acceptable SAT score. Third, for athletes with only marginal grades under NCAA standards, SMU requires them to go through a special faculty and administrative admissions process to ensure the athlete has the ability, with help by tutors and advisors, to ultimately graduate. This process is not controlled by coaches, though they can advocate for a prospective student/athlete. Keith Frazier went through that process. Fourth, checking on the academic progress of high school recruits is 100% normal and is done at every school. In the case of Keith Frazier, SMU had backup plans involving other outstanding players if Keith proved to be ineligible. SMU kept up with his academic progress because if they ever concluded he was not going to be cleared by the NCAA, they would need to switch to other options before they were gone. WFAA violated the ideal to to tell the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth. By leaving out key facts, they did an incredible disservice to Keith Frazier. With strong academic support, Keith will have a chance to get his degree and support his son. The reason Keith went to SMU was to be close to his young son as he grew up. Keith is a good kid who has matured a lot and is passing his classes at SMU. Brett Shipp's article portraying him as an ignorant, dishonest jock is insulting, dishonest in its incomplete telling, and in my opinion borderline racist. Michael W. Shore
Can someone explain the significance of this letter to Hal Jay? I am familiar with Mr. Jay but I am not familiar with Mr. Shore. Thanks.

SMU has to conduct a preliminary investigation of Keith's transcript and the DISD findings Based on that it's a simple matter to determine whether there is credible evidence that Frazier attained eligibility based upon a fradulent grade change in physics-and was that cured during the sumer school. If they find he cleared the NCAA based upon a fradulent transcript then I believe SMU has to immediately suspend Frazier-notify the NCAA and seek reinstatement from NCAA. See Cam Newton

I am pretty sure the school is on top of this. They knew this was coming. I heard rumors that a local media outlet was investigating LB and the BB program. I just didn't know what it was till yesterday

Plus he is hurt. I don't see how suspending him now helps in any way. The NCAA would not make us forfeit games were he did not play. His injury has probably bought SMU at least a week to figure out what is appropriate.

SMU grad, Dallas attorney and I believe a part of original Circle of Champians. Need Rivals subscription to keep up with Mr. Shore although he does post on this site from time to time.

You're assuming the investigation hasn't already been done. I'm not saying it has, but it's possible. We know almost nothing right now, including whether Shipp has something legit tonight.
