This is good national publicity for the University and CUSA in general. I'm kind of surprised Rice or UH wasn't used since they are closer to N.O. I read today that the Saints may play their openner in San Antonio. The N.O. Zephyrs are apparently going to conclude their season in Oklahoma. The devastation to life and property is unbelievable throughout the gulf coast. Biloxi/Gulfport is flattened. This is going to take a long time to clean up.
For the NFL, since the gate is split 50-50, I think it be more profitable for the NFL and the Saints to play the first few home games as road games if possible. The home division games could be swapped. So the Saints play 9 or 10 road games. What difference does it really make? You could play at the Giants, at Buffalo, switch out the 10/16 home game with Atlanta for the 12/12 away game. That gets you to October 30th at home against Miami. New Orleans loses two home games they would otherwise have. Yes, it is seven straight road games. I would prefer that to playing three games in San Antonio, which will be half-full, possibly discounted tickets.
I dunno...San Antonians are pretty starved for professional football. They're usually split between the Texans and the Cowboys. The Saints could take in a new fan base if they played in the Alamodome and I think the San Antonians would welcome them with open arms.
There was discussion on the radio last night about the Saints possibly playing at LSU's stadium, which is apparently not significantly damaged. I think this would provide a nice psychological boost to the flood victims.
Or just play in Baton Rouge
