Is this cheesed*ck serious?! SMU got good "overnight"?

Lets look at the transfers/recruits that are here. Nic Moore transferred bc his head coach at Illinois State came to SMU. Crandall Head knew Jerrance Howard from his days at Illinois. Markus Kennedy is here bc Jay Wright is good buddies with Larry Brown and Larry was able to watch Markus play/practice in person. Keith Frazier is at SMU bc he's from Dallas and wants to play for a HOF coach that can prepare him (hopefully) for the NBA. Sterling Brown and Ben Moore were Illinois guys brought in by Jerrance Howard. Nick Russell is a DFW native who was lost in the shufle at K-State. He was brought in under the Doh regime.

So while you say this happened "overnight", it actually was a process that goes back 3 years to Russell all the way up to now. There is no WTF transfer or signing. All of these kids had legitimate reasons to come to SMU. Your implication that something is wrong here and then to link it to Sandusky is beyond stupid. If you truly are a follower of SMU athletics and a graduate of SMU I would demand a refund. Clearly we failed you somewhere along the way.

First of all, I almost qualified the Sandusky comment because I feared that backlash, but I thought you guys were smarter than that. Guess not. I was clearly comparing the "circle the wagons" response to an investigation, not the actual situations. And you know that.

As for the recruiting situations, I said outright that I'm not blaming anyone of anything. SMU's turnaround has been about as overnight as you get in college basketball. What I said and I'll say again is that questions and investigations come with quick success because it's a known fact that college basketball is not clean. And the proper response is not to skewer the reporter (and me for that matter) for the mere fact you don't like what he's reporting about.

Let's try it again. It's not what he reported but the manner and tone in which he ambushed Coach Brown. By the way, DISD investigated Kimball not SMU. Anyway do you agree with How Ship questioned Coach Brown? Did you see the whole interview he had with Coach Brown?

No you're right. Going down to Houston and carpet bombing a press conference after a hard fought win against a conference opponent with incredible shake voice is the pinnacle of journalistic integrity. I'm sure Mr. Shipp is now the frontrunner for the Pulitzer.

Get real. College basketball turnarounds happen a lot faster when you have a HOF coach and a staff full of relentless recruiters. Oh yeah, and we are going to renovate our arena to be the best in the state of Texas if not the entire Southwest. But lets instantly assume wrongdoing and foul play because of sh*t that happened in Reagan's first term.

The emotion about Shipp is primarily about his methods - which are purposely sensational and are what gives investigative reporters their very poor reputations. Nobody wants their kid to grow up to be that kind of slime ball.

Also - this particular reporter has shown that he basically just writes the same crap time after time whenever he thinks there MIGHT be this particular issue - it is obvious he is filling space and is going for an easy target. It is borderline if not completely racist in my view, and many people see it the same way.

So yes, in this case the response is exactly to skewer the reporter.

I think most SMU fans are justifiably upset at the SMU angle and ambush of Larry Brown at a road game post game news conference without any legally substantive evidence that SMU did anything wrong. I definitely think the report about the DISD investigation and findings are fair game and I didn't find anything about that part unfair or unreasonable. It also would be reasonable to point out that this places the eligibility of Frazier in question. He should have asked SMU for a comment and then noted SMU's response.

My understanding is that Shipp was being stonewalled by SMU and that's why he showed up at the press conference. I don't see anything wrong with that. As for Larry Brown's denial of any knowledge...I found that pretty laughable. If Brett Shipp has been calling for months, LB knows damn well something's going on.

In addition, the DISD report raises serious questions about what SMU coaches knew about Frazier's grades - and when they knew it.

Assistant SMU basketball coach Ulric Maligi called Kimball and made several inquiries about Frazier's grades, including the day that Frazier's grade was changed. Maligi allegedly asked Kimball's college advisor how Frazier's grade could be improved.

I don't think that implicates SMU in any wrong doing, but I do agree it raises questions. I don't know that it's necessarily unfair. If the stuff in that letter a few pages back is true, the "questions" are easily answerable.

If you actually read and watched the original story, there is nothing that connects the correct & documented DISD part to SMU.
And this morning the reporter admitted on local radio he CAN'T LINK SMU to the DISD part.
That's why people are [deleted] off.
And justifiably so.

Well, I'm not sure from the article what prompted Shipp to report on this. Is this an old DISD audit, or did a new report come out? I assume a new one. I guess I just feel like it's fair game to question what's going on. If SMU didn't do anything wrong, just cooperate with the investigation and everything will work out just fine.

The network that helped launch the investigation to bring down our entire athletic department is behind this "story" without what appears to be any real evidence to show SMU had a part in the change and we are just supposed to just sit back and watch quietly as this develops? If there was more evidence indicating SMU had something to do with the grade change your post would have merit. Did you ever consider that the Kimball teacher/coach/admin may have change the grade because they knew he had a chance at a much better life and had a chance to grow up under the structure in place in the SMU basketball program led by a great teacher/mentor? btw, it's odd you would wait six years (time of your last post) and post something like this when you're such a big SMU basketball fan.

I saw the 7 minute clip on youtube. If he walked into the press conference and just started asking those questions out of the blue, then no I don't. That's classless. If Shipp (as is my understanding) had been calling for months and getting stonewalled, then yeah, I'm okay with it.

Sorry, I'm calling out that BS because he IS smarter than that. It's totally dishonest to pretend like I was comparing grade changing with kid raping.

to the smuscreenname, no one here questions a valid investigative report, but you should have some integrity before dragging someone's name through the mud without having all your facts and knowing all the details. You also cannot ambush and accuse a HOF coach such as LB and attack him for supporting grade changing, based on a mere attempt to get his 5-minutes of fame on sunday night.

Two can play this game, I googled and found a story on Shipp on some other "story" he worked on. This is what they had to say about Shipp:
