No. In only SMU style we get a new fan with Ohiobrownfan and our posters manage to call him out over an opinion about ticket sales. No one will ever know which reason more tickets were sold and the majority of us dont care. Rebel and Stallion are the same with JasonB. He offers his OPINION about football and they bash him because his OPINION is different than theirs. OHB please do not stop posting here because i like your view on things and you are way more knowledgeable about basketball than the majority of us on this board.

I DO NOT work for Legends at all lol. I have no affiliation for them other than I work in a collegiate athletic department and understand the inner-workings of a ticket department. As for Nebraska, they had near sell-outs last year. How do you explain that one? They sucked just as bad last year.

Did you read where I said they hired a new coach that started last year. Tim Miles has created a lot of excitement at Nebraska. That state just supports the huskers anyway though. They sell out a lot of volleyball games etc. FWIW, I hope Legends gets USC job. That coach is running his mouth so much that he won't be there long and they might get a better situation with someone else.

SMU 86 wrote:I actually see what Reb is saying. I called the ticket office about two weeks before Mudiay signed and the person told me that they were selling only about 30 to 40 tickets per week. After Mudiay committed to SMU on ESPN I called the next week and they had we now selling over 100 tickets. I just wanted to see of that spike maintained and a few weeks later they were still selling over 100 per week. That was because of Mudiay not Legends. But I guess OBF would give most of the credit to Legends from the way he sounds.

I simply give it to both. I mentioned in the very first post that obviously much of it is directly tied to team success but it's much more than that. The cut is deeper than just having a good team. That is my stance and has been my stance. As for the people that think the "hate" affects me, I appreciate the words but no worries. It's a message board and people are entitled to an opinion, right or wrong. I don't claim that the ticket sales are a sole product of having Legends there but I've been around programs that they've completely turned around their ticket sales departments and such. There will be a rough patch when they hand it back over, I can almost guarantee it, rougher than it has been this past year. I don't think people even realize how difficult it is to open a completely new arena and start selling or how much goes into making sure those suites are sold for games when that is where the big money is. I could get into it in much more detail, but there's so many small things that they're doing that people don't even realize.

For example, has the print-at-home tickets ever been this easy at SMU for season ticket holders? Could you sell on StubHub in the past? Was there even a print-at-home option before? Did you ever have a season ticket book that looked as nice as they do now? When was the last time the arena sold out for 5 games in one season? It's not like this is the first year they will have made it to the Dance before. I'm simply saying there is a lot that goes on, you can't even order ticket packages online right now, I guarantee next year that before they roll out that you will be able to renew online, move your seats, and order packages/single games right off the SMU website. These are all improvements that help the end consumer (fans), get what they want and also gives them avenues to get the tickets to friends when they can't make it to a game instead of having to have the hard tickets.

Yes I realize Tim Miles was hired last year. How about Ohio University, can you explain why they sell football games so well when the team is awful? Why do they have sell-outs and a secondary market at a MAC school of all places? I could listen dozens of places, Nebraska is one that came to mind on how a good ticketing department is ran. You're very naive to think that it all has to do with team success otherwise SMU wouldn't be shelling out big money for their consulting, right? Why would a school pay someone else to do the ticketing if it was as easy as a new arena and good team?

So before Mudiay commits you have 30-40 ticket sales per week then after he commits you have 100 plus per week. But you attribute it to both. LOL. We have never a coach like Coach Brown come and never had teams like Louisville, Cincy, UConn etc coming here. Never had a new Moody that is the best area in the state of Texas. I tell you what we will agree to disagree and you can have your stance and I will have mine. If Coach Doh were still here and we were having a bad season and the Moody was not renovated we would not have the ticket sales we have. Anyway, beat USF.

Haha, that's fine. I understand where you're coming from and in many ways you are correct. You can also say the football team had a bad season so people turned their hope to basketball and that's what drove sales. It's easy to play sides. I don't know the numbers so I won't pretend to, but I'm quite sure I heard that they were moving about 150 a week. Do you really think the average fan had any idea who Mudiay was before the season? Yes, you're a die hard and are on a message board/true SMU fan, but do you think the average person knew Mudiay committed and decided to buy a season ticket? Come on now.... As an Ohio State fan, I don't go out and buy season football tickets just because Urban Meyer brought in a stud recruiting class or Thad Matta has a couple 5*s committed next year. Hell, my friends don't even know that Matta has a good recruiting class coming in. But anyways, yes, Pony Up, I'm ready to watch the boys tonight.

this thread is completely derailed with several casualties. Let's just celebrate selling out a game a week and a half in advance and focus on selling out Temple as well.

The SMU fans and people in the Dallas area know who Mudiay is. I am in Dallas so I know.

Being serious here. Could you get a hold of your friends at Legends and tell them this guys needs help.

Not sure I can do much 86. Just contact them again is what I'd recommend and ask for Jason (Head of the Ticket Department) but group tickets may not be a possibility for the game. I only know them through professional acquaintances and NCAA tourney.

In the words of our former Secretary of State, "At this point, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE!"

There's plenty of credit to go around with LB, exciting players, David Miller and New Moody, a newly engaged student body, AND the marketing team. Let's Pony^ and enjoy the ride.

BTW, I emailed [email protected] with a question and got a personal response from Aaron within 15 minutes. Very impressed.

No, we can't stop yet..... We can't finish this thread without first bashing our head football coach and criticizing his recruiting efforts.
