Wow... Just wow... Scrap football and make it baseball... At least we could be competitive in that and put the rest of the funding to basketball. Football is dead under JJ, I hope CoC likes an empty stadium.

Ponyfans here want our program to be Big 12 or P5 or whatever they call it these days...so they are mad that June was extended and are threatening to cut their support to the program and not go to games.

The athletic department knows we need fans right now to make the case that we are a big time program and can deliver TV markets before the next realignment in 10 years.

We all want the same thing. We don't have such a big fanbase in which will affect the already large deficit in our athletic budget which is why they won't really listen to us, contrary to ASU which has tons of fans and them being outraged would affect their bottom line. It's not like we are packing Ford right now. Not supporting the program is shooting ourselves in the foot. 15 billionaires are throwing loads of money into our program because they believe. Let's make that gift to our school be worth it!

Just let it go, we are needed right now! P5 invites are not given to programs with 10k fans...they are given to powerhouses that can draw TV and stadium attendance. We are needed NOW! So let's stop the betchin and moanin and PONY UP!

Nothing will change for me. I'll make same donation and keep same seats. I'm a fan when we are good. I'm a fan when we are bad. I'll see this through.

stallion- your ignorance and stupidity are an insult to even those with learning disabilities. Obviously they don't have reading comprehension at tortilla throwers U. or you would have read a) first of the year and b) not posting on the fball forum.
May God help any legal clients that you may have for they are at a severe disadvantage with you representing them.

I agree with you on this stallion issue redpony, although I don't agree that you should leave. We need everyone to be onboard, because no one will do it if it ain't us!

I agree with this. My SMU fball tickets are more than just about SMU fball, it's a bonding time between my father and myself. My dad drug us all over Texas and Arkansas back in the old SWC days, when I was a kid, and this is my chance to repay him for getting me to love SMU and Mustang fball. So I'll renew the tickets and hope for things to get better, but while I'm there enjoy time with my dad.

The day you say something interesting or illuminating about the SMU football program will be a first-but then again it ain't ever going to happen right because you threatened to never post here again and to boycott the program. I'm looking forward to it because you have never added a thing to this message board. The decisions been made-now would be a great time to start your boycott

If you kicked out everyone who didn't add something "enlightening" about the state of smu athletics, I think this would be more of an email conversation than a message board. Lighten up brah

I guess we know now what he meant when he said he had leverage.

Probably something like this has been posted previously in another thread.

Stallion wrote:SMU fans who expect for a group of about 15 alumni to float this program and get us to a higher level while boycotting the program will kill any chance for us to compete at a higher level. The Circle of Champions invested in SMU in the hopes of stimulating SMU fans and jump starting SMU's BCS hopes. Who failed worse? The Circle of Champions or SMU's entitled fanbase? By any logical financial analysis of this program the enormous financial investment in SMU Football over the last 15 years (among the highest of all non-BCS schools) makes very little sense unless revenues are substantially increased through significantly higher ticket revenue. This ball game is just about over if we don't increase the fanbase whether we win or lose. All you are doing is making a chronic 50 year problem worse and reinforcing the undesireability of the SMU job to prospective coaches

I nominate this for Post of The Year.

You guys smack me around for being a sunshiner; I think of myself as a realist. Am I happy with the state of the Union? No. Am I happy with recruiting? No. Is the cupboard bare? Not hardly. Are game-changing coaches lining up at Hart's door to take the SMU job? No, and they won't ever be if you fire a coaching "legend" who took you to 4 straight bowls.

The program is not where we can expect to compete at mid-level year in and year out. It is not at the point where we can weather the ebb and flow of graduation and attrition and be consistently good. Every year since Jones arrived, we've had to have some things go our way to get to a bottom tier bowl. Things didn't go our way this year. We tried to get some JUCO help, that didn't pan out. We also had some marquis transfers who didn't really pan out. We lost some players to due grades and other issues. Greenbauer and Gilbert got hurt. And that was the difference; season over.

Fact of the matter is that damn near every university is throwing massive resources behind their programs to make themselves respectable and competitive. Look at UNT, Tulane, Baylor, Houston –– all perennial cellar dwellers and/or poor universities who are emptying the vaults to keep up. Jones will either do well next year and he'll stay, or he won't and he'll be gone. Either way, we need to stick to our guns, support the team any way we can, give them every chance to succeed, and we'll take it to the next level with this coach or his replacement. My 3 cents.

The cupboard is incredibly bare. The talent level in 14 and moving forward is Bennett/Cavan-esque. We are paper thin on the OL and DL and lack any real playmakers in the secondary. Without Acker, Gottschalk, Gilbert, and Jeremy Johnson you're going to see just how poor of a squad this is.
Back off Warchild seriously.
