OT: Myles Turner OV to Okie State this weekend

Postby OhioBrownFan » Wed Jan 29, 2014 2:02 pm

Per his twitter. Trying to talk to a few guys to get the scoop. Texas' resurgence may really come into play here with Barnes buying himself another year in the top 25. He's off the hot seat for at least the moment and if they can keep the staff together for one more year, that's all that really matters cause Turner won't be around for more than that. Will probably know much more where things stand after the OV and how it goes. I've said before I think Okie State is probably in the driver's seat if they land the OV but Texas could make a push. I don't see him heading to Ohio if this weekend goes well.

If OSU does not have any bigs coming in or on the roster for next year they have a good chance.

Yes, I saw this tweet from Phil Forte earlier today.

“@PhilForte13: “@OKStateProbs: My hashtag for the weekend: #MylesToStilly” @Original_Turner”

Stillwater is an actual shithole. How anyone could want to live there baffles me.

What is Myles looking for that SMU doesn't have? Massive school/fanbase?

If you're the #6 player in the country and from NYC, why would you go to St. John's (a la SMU) and not Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, ect for basketball? SMU basketball isn't there yet, it's going to take more than one year to turn around. Just last year they went .500 basically which is when the majority of his recruitment foundation was laid. He can pick any school in the country, why SMU other than you're a fan? Know what I mean? I ask myself the same question, why is Luke Kennard probably going to Kentucky when he grew up in Ohio and Ohio State is a great team? Kentucky offers things that Ohio State can't in regard to basketball, it's just the way it is. Oklahoma State at the moment offers him an opportunity at a very deep run in the NCAA tourney, great fan base, good football team, sold out gym every game that is a big arena, playing in the B12 which is one of the premier conferences where you get to go play in Allen Field House, ect...

He is only going to be there for 6 or 9 months so location is not the issue here. This is not a 4 year commitment. Opportunity not so much location is the key.

I wish we'd beat Oklahoma State in 2011 when we took them to 2OT at the AAC...

Not that it would affect this. That was definitely the high point of the 2011-2012 season.

He is an 18 year old. Cut him some slack. He has made it clear that we are not on his list and he hasn't toyed with us. If he doesn't come here and it's 99.99999% sure he isn't, I hope he goes to Okie State. It is a good program in a good conference and his folks can make the drive or flight.

Only reason to go to Okie State? T Poone Pickens is writing him and his family a check.

And before you grill me on that, take a look at what every UK fan said about Mudiay coming to SMU. We should be able to dish it out too, right???

That said, I am being tongue in cheek - he is a good kid and has a great family and I trust the decision is his to make. Maybe he just likes eskimo joe's.

If I am Myles I'm going where I can: (1) start right away and be a showcase/high visibility and (2) establish the quick path to the NBA with the right coaching staff/program/mentors (I think he and his family said proximity to home isn't a top priority really although Okie State and Texas could be considered "close to home" vs OSU or Kentucky or Duke certainly).

So you have to throw out quality of school (Okie St is a [Deleted] school/Texas is better).

Personally I think he ends up at Texas or Okie (I don't really know what Okie's roster looks like next year, but he could be another Durant type at Texas). So I'd lean Texas.

Of course, why he won't even attend an SMU game and have us in his top freaking 7 is beyond me. Only thing I can think of is money. (same reason we can't really compete in football recruiting - money just isn't there).

Dude, you shouldn't have to defend yourself. I wish we'd all (WE meaning society) just acknowledge that every major program pays their players to come there and should. SMU, I think, will just NOT do this in football due to our painful history (why we suck at recruiting . . . well that and no real fire under our staff) -- only reason we are getting some good recruits in bball is because of Larry Brown and the work they bring. If he can get us into the tourney and keep us there (and keep Ulric and KT), our recruiting might improve and we land a stud occasionally but not enough to be a Duke or Kentucky but respectable.

How many bigs does SMU have again? Even if he starts here he wouldn't get as much playing time as he would at Okie State.

Right, so if that is the case at Okie (I said I didn't know what their roster looks like next year) then Okie makes better sense for him. My point is why wouldn't he even CONSIDER us.

Too many bigs and not in a power 5 conference is my guess. It's not about money because Duke is in his mix as well. Remember we were a dark horse at one time.
