Geez Christ what a suck-up. you realize we have plenty of stories documenting the relationship between Cottrell and Mason-Right? You are completely out of control with this Klemm hate. Klemm was gone a LONG LONG time before Mason took his commitment. Klemm left SMU over a year BEFORE Cottrell committed to Mason. Klemm left SMU in December 2011. Mason took Cottrell commitment in January 20, 2013. Cottrell was still committed to SMU 2 years AFTER Klemm left SMU.

MASON is the DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.-He pretty much has veto power over any recruit. JUNE JONES is the HEAD COACH who has authority over the entire football program including player analysis and recruiting. I too questioned the commitment of a 6-2, 185 DE -but I was questioning MASON and JONES-they are responsible.

Even if true is this not an incredible example of how lazy, uncoordinated and unorganized June Jones' recruiting staff is to accept the commitment of a player for 12 months who does not have the physical development to play? Does the staff have recruiting meetings with input on potential offers?-Do they adequately canvass the state? Do they slot recruits on a recruiting board? The Buck stops at the Head Coaches' front door. If true, this simply yet another of a long list of why the Head Coach needs to be replaced

Let's compare to a competent college Head Coach-Larry Brown personally contacts, analyzes video, personally travels across country to meet and analyze each SMU offeree at practices/games BEFORE offering the recruit. In case some of you didn't know Larry Brown has taken his last 2 off-days the day after BB games to fly across the country to personally evaluate 2 different prospects. June Jones has taken 3 vacations during the key January recruiting period for 2014 and 2015 recruits.

And just who do you think I am sucking up to?

Both Cottrell brothers were offered prior to the 2012 Signing Day. I don't know the exact date, but I would assume sometime in 2011. If that fact didn't end up in print for you to read, it doesn't mean it's untrue –- just means it wasn't public knowledge.

And for that matter, kudos to Klemm for getting in there and competing with Oregon and UT. At least he was in there swinging at the fences to sign a blue-chipper. Doesn't seem much different than Coach Brown's recruitment of the Mudiay brothers. You take that deal 365 days a year.

I'm not defending Mason or Jones. I have no idea what their rationale might have been in the way they handled this kid after Bryce signed with UT. But I have seen them back off the recruitment of players they decided couldn't play for SMU. The fact that they offered this kid over two years ago, the fact that they really wanted big brother in a package deal, and the fact that Lance didn't blossom into the tank that his half brother is leads me to SPECULATE this is what happened.

June Jones was Head Coach and Mason was Defensive Coordinator in 2011 when SMU offered;
Adrian Klemm left SMU in December 2011;
June Jones was Head Coach and Mason was Defensive Coordinator in 2013 (January 10, 2013) when Cottrell committed to SMU about 13 months AFTER Klemm left;
Oral offers made in a kid's Sophomore year are completely non-binding-not even written
June Jones is responsible for SMU's recruiting efforts
Tom Mason is respnsible for SMU's defensive recruits;
June Jones and Tom Mason were responsible for allowing an offer to be made in 2011 and allowing an offer to be accepted by Cottrell' when he committed in 2013 PERIOD
Lack of organization, program disfunction and lack of recruiting coordination do not excuse June Jones or Tom Mason-they are an indictment of poor performance

so Cottrell did not like the way he was recruited? what the hell does that mean?
does he want to be wined and dined, paid, what?

if SMU cooled on him because he appears to be way undersized for his position and he did not blossom as they expected, it sounds to me like SMU is fortunate the kid is not staying with the commitment.

it seems, at least IMO that the kid is making a mistake, unless of course SMU pulled the offer themselves.

so what am i missing here?

Nothing. Just more sour grapes from the Lemming Lambada Union.

We traded up from Cottrell to Ngalo. End of story.

They play different positions though. Cottrell is outside LB, Ngalo will be inside. Who are the pass rushers in this year's class? Jefferson?

I wouldn't make any assumptions regarding losing any recruits at this late date. Every school is trading recruits, forcing some to firmly commit or miss the train. Any recruit that just looks like they might go to another school for an official is subject to losing their offer. Some kids grow and progress their senior year and some don't. Better athletes sometimes become available and some suddenly get a cold shoulder from their recruiting coach--until the LOI's are actually signed, grades, growth and the sudden appearance of a better athlete can make that offer just that, an offer that is subject to change.

guess it depends on what how that ship is used

Shouldn't everyone on the board be celebrating? One less guy with no offers. What if the ship goes to Jeff George Jr? I am not so sure this is a bad thing at all. Seems like our best recruits are starting to show up here at the last minute. Let this guy ride the pine as a walk on at Texas Tech...

I will eat a side of crow but not a whole plate. Some good recruits came in on this back end here.

well don't get too giddy. There is one top recruit who dropped in our lap. 1 decent recruit we got from UH and 5 complete out oi left field sleepers who were flying well under the radar. The definition of a sleeper in the Dictionary is 3 guys we got off the Army Prep squad

Stallion- who in this class actually seems legit and like the type of recruit we need to be getting to be competitive in the AAC? Obviously difficult to project now but I think as follows:

QB: Colbert will be interesting to watch. Not as confident about Severt but who knows. Wish we could've landed Harris
RB: Gresham is a player, could start from day one
WR: Goulbourne if healthy can contribute right away with his size. I'm also excited about Shelby Walker
OL: Both Brown and Hyder should compete for playing time early in careers and be solid contributors
DL: No idea about Epley
LB: Everyone was down on Kyran but he was defensive player of the year in his district which had a lot of talent.
DB: Both Gaines and Wyatt had BCS offers and could contribute right away at a major area of need

So a kid being recruited by a Big 10 school and Big 12 school who has an offer at said Big 10 is completely under the radar...

I guess that is not so bad - Zach Line and Margus were under the Radar too.

So were about 15-20 other players that did not do well. Its seems you have to get 15-20 or so under the radar players for a few to work out. That causes depth problems.

Cottrell was not on the Plano West team the last half of the season. Rumor was that he and other players were kicked off the team after arrests for possession of marijuana. Makes you wonder if SMU withdrew the scholarship offer.

Rumor is wrong. Cottrell missed some games because he was injured. I believe he came back the last couple of games of the season.
