I would think he would benefit from another year of college ball, not to mention the additional education. However, I don’t know his circumstances; maybe this was his only option going forward. This is very similar in another way to S-McNeal, except SM came off a 1000+ yard season. I believe SM had some outside issues that made him forgo is last year also. I don’t know if he will get a UFA deal or not, but his physical tools and measurables should get him some looks and try-outs ... I would think. I wish him the best, sorry for SMU.

I don't know any details, but from my perspective: if a guy has a family to support and he's playing college ball/taking classes, it doesn't leave a lot of room to make money to support it (even with a wife earning money). It's a tough situation. Either you stick it out another year and assess the risk/reward (injury/break out year) or you jump now. I'm assuming he's probably 23 y.o. by now (redshirting at Texas, then what 2 years? then another year at JUCO then last year now he's got ANOTHER year all while the clock is ticking and bummed out foot and knee). I don't know. Did he get a degree?

Either way, he seemed liked a really good kid and I would have liked to have seen him injury free with a full year under his belt learning the offense and then come back for a breakout senior season ala Gilbert (which is probably what he was hoping also).

But such is life. Sucks.

When I transferred to SMU the school whacked a bunch of my credits. At that time, if the school didn't offer a comparable course, then they didn't accept the transfer credits. It might be different now.

There must be more to the story than the school didn't accept 1 class. He would have all spring and summer to make up the three credits and get back on track to be eligible for next season.

I'm sorry to see him go, but I don't know what his situation is. If he can make a go of it, I wish him all the best.

Shead might be a nice guy, but he was terrible. Stiff, slow and timid is not a winning combination. I'll take Pope back there with KC as a change of pace.

I don't care why he's leaving. He played for the Ponies, so I'll always root for him.
