I think we can all agree that this is the mindset the team and coaches should have.

But why does it matter if fans look ahead? If anything it helps keep people invested and get excited for every game.

Plus there's a lot of us that watch other games anyway and having a rooting interest (however tenuous) is fun.

So Louisville or Cincinnati tonight?

The RPI difference is probably negligible, so there's probably two camps:

1) Cincinnati to increase profile of 02/08/14 game.
2) Louisville to give Cincinnati a loss and "keep hope alive" for a regular season championship.

I probably lean towards #2, but I'll enjoy the game regardless. Almost certainly the best two teams in our conference; no offense meant to Memphis.

tough call...going to be a great game. I wouldn't mind an undefeated Cincy team coming into Moody next weekend. Yet, Louisville will be a contender when they come in as well. I think it's a win/win

Cincy would also be a top 10 team if they beat lville. AAC could use that

Louisville's performance has a future weight of 4.11 on our RPI, whereas Cincy's is 4.08 (source: http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/SMU.html). So a Louisville win would MARGINALLY help us.

But since Louisville is leaving the conference next year, I will probably root for Cincy.

The selection committee.

A 23-8 SMU team with a better RPI gets more consideration than a 23-8 SMU team with a worse RPI.

Given that you aren't on the team, then, you shouldn't worry about the team's performance.
