I think we'll end up pretty similar to this year (and last year): we should probably go 6-6, but even one bad loss and we're praying for an upset in the last week to even make a bowl game.

That said, I think this upcoming season is actually pretty tough to gauge and 6-6 is the "safe bet". It could really range from surprisingly decent to downright terrible depending on the team's state of mind...

2014 Schedule

Postby feelthehorsepower » Thu Jan 30, 2014 8:06 pm

If we cannot win 10 games next season, we can kiss our dream to play in a BCS conference goodbye. We need to beat these two bit teams in our conference. Imagine a schedule of 8 Big 12 teams instead! We can do it. The boys have to believe it and execute! We can win again!

I think we can all agree we're not ready for a top 5 conference right now. The realistic goal is gradual improvement so that one day we will be.

Call me complacent, but I'd almost rather we just get good enough to compete for our conference title every year. And that our conference is consistently 6th (maybe rarely 7th) best in the nation. I'd really rather not be a "bottom feeder" in any conference...

In order to do that we need to perform at a superior level than other teams in the AAC and improve at a much faster rate through coaching/better recruiting. I see this next year as a very winnable schedule and if we do not make the mistakes that haunted us in 2013 we can come away with 10 wins and possibly even stealing one from Baylor and be the 11-1 team in the AAC going to the BCS game (Cotton Bowl or Fiesta)

It must feel wonderful to be that optimistic.

Not that I'd complain if you were right...

We lost to Rutgers and Cincy by 3, and to UCF by 4. If we would have won those, we would have been 7-1 in conference. That and the Montana State win would have made us go 8-4.

Everyone saw the Texas Tech game was within 4 points the entire game. It was very winnable. So there we would have had 9-3

I strongly argue that our team gave up vs. Texas A&M too early but recognize that we were going to lose anyways.

TCU was full of missed opportunities to score and we let it go out of hand. But let's say we would have pulled it off and won...we would be 10-2

Coming into Houston with a 9-1 record would not have yielded a 34-0 result...

We could have been in the Fiesta bowl but we blew it.

I get the feeling that most of you actually like it when we go 5-7 or 4-8!

4-8 if we're really lucky, June has run out of smoke and mirrors.

Anybody who buys tickets, attends games, and continues to care about the football program is helping it. Predicting 12-0 or 0-12 or anywhere in between does not make you a better or worse fan.

I'm sure all the pessimists on this board would LOVE to be wrong...

I have to agree that a prediction is just a prediction on a message board. It doesn't help or hurt the school.

FTHP does seem a little out there with his predictions, but he makes very good points. Cincy, Rutgers, and tech were winnable games, especially at halftime. Uh and ucf shouldn't even be considered with GG out. We could have handled the fiesta bowl champs with ease if GG plays, just think about that. I know it's pointless to play the what if game, but last year was probably out best team, talent wise, of the jj era, as much as you guys hate on him
