I don't know that they will move Briggs or Weeks. McCarty played RG last year.

Losing Gots wasn't going to be so bad, because we would be looking at:
Briggs
Rice
Lasecki
Hughes
Myets

With McCarty as depth at guard and plenty of depth at tackle.

Rice leaving means McCarty moves in. Still would be fine and get better as the year went on with experience. But really thin at guard.

If we lost Rice and Hughes to go along with Gots, that is a killer. We have to play a tackle out of position at guard, or hope that Chamagua or Fister develops.

Moving someone from Tackle to Guard is certainly better than the transition from Guard to Tackle, but not ideal at all. Losing three starters from the beginning of last year is a killer.

Anyone know what ever happened with Ashcraft by the way? People were raving about him, and then when I saw practice it was like he had hit a wall and never recovered. Was there some kind of injury there that never got reported?

Jason, don't you think going into this year, we are a lot better off on OL than last? (not that this should be the ultimate standard).
We have two OT's that will be 3rd yr redshirt playing who played pretty well and have 3 years left to play. We have a decent, and maybe better than that center who has played two years.
Hughes was replaced by Ashcraft in the UCF game, so he was not playing great.
They have always said they will play the best 5 OL, so you have McCarty, Myers, Chamagua, Fister competing for 2 guards positions, with Reich, Seana (now at 330) as back up tackles.
Again, not claiming that is great or ideal, but I think that is a better place to start than last year, when were replacing 3 people.

would really be something if Gresham is good enough to come in and start right away, but one thing is reasonably certain...JJ will start the guy who can best protect whoever the QB turns out to be. As when Zach was here, it would be nice to have a RB who is a threat to break some 10+ yd runs to keep the defense honest
