I know that several on this board completely disagree with me and will disparage my point of view but I was at SMU in the 80s and have lived in the UT community since the early 90s and I am appalled at what I have seen down here compared to the recruiting violations we were nailed for.

Yep. Don't disagree wity you. Actually Broyles started the breakup DeLoss just solidified it. Beat them at their own game and they did not like it. We got caught got with the help of their supporters. That is an oversimplification but the truth.

Exactly....The Longhorn Mafia don't like any "local rivals" getting recruits or positive headlines. That's why I have predicted even though A&M is in the SEC now, don't be surprised if they come under some massive investigation. UT is pizzed off A&M said "screw you" and left for a better conference and landed JohnnyHeismanFootball.

I can only imagine if you have access to inside info what you have seen and heard down in Austin as they cover-up so many of their hooligan shenanigans and questionable actions. Of course Brett Shipp and his Longhorn Fan producer are not interested in looking into those kinds of stories, not when they've got an agenda to bring an upcoming Larry Brown led SMU team down a notch or two before UT gets embarrassed again by another in-state school. I hope we can get the Longhorns in Moody next season after "No Thanks Kentucky" Emmanuel Mudiay hits his stride!

I completely agree with you. Thanks for reminding/educating the people on this board who weren't around then or have forgotten.

Do not think UT can be too mad about not getting Johnny FB. He would have killed to have gone there had they just said he could play QB.

UT can compete with anybody, let's don't kid ourselves.

The issue is they can't dominate us. In recruiting battles maybe they go 55/45 in UT's favor against us. That is unacceptable to them.

I have always maintained UT FB is arguably the biggest sports failure in the history of American sports. They have everything in their favor, epicenter of football, amazing city, terrific academic school, major competition in-state resides in Waco, Lubbock, College Station, Cowtown, brainy school in Houston + commuter school in Houston, zero competition from a Top 10 city in population (San Antonio), and at times, competition from a small private school in Dallas; yet all they have to show for it is 1 NC outside of DKR. It's like the Yankees or Fighting Irish only winning 3 NC's in their storied histories.

I agree Topper, I think UT was happy we 'went away', after all, we were the U before Miami became the U. What role they played in it?, I think more than most people would give credit for.

Actually, I speak of information that anyone with eyes and ears sees every day down here. Athletes from impoverished backgrounds living like princes. There is no doubt that SMU was cheating in a big way, but many of our documented "violations" consisted of things like giving a recruit a Polaroid (some of you don't know what that is) photo of themselves taken on campus (a 3 cent illegal inducement) or a graduate assistant having the nerve to play raquetball with a recruit (illegal tryout for a football player). This kind of stuff is small beer in Austin.

"Biggest sports failure in the history of American sports" The hate is deep, very aggy esque.

This board could use some new blood.

SCP, not sure I completely agree with you but I understand what you are saying. I would kill for that type of failure at dear old SMU.

Most pre-SWC break-up alums, simply hate burnt orange. Anytime UT loses its a good day. Yes, we deserved the DP for all the reasons told 1000 times on this board, but the dirty little secret was that UT did as well. ED was offered more money by the Whorns than by SMU. The fact is that UT had a representative on the enforcement committee and thus the investigators spent their time in College Station, Ft. Worth and Dallas because that's who they feared. They didn't fear Baylor, Rice, UH, TT and Arkansas had Frank Broyles who the NCAA considered a saint. So, if WFAA is getting their knives out to go after us, old alums worry because they know who their puppet masters are.

UT was represented by Charles Alan Wright, a law professor who was in awe of athletes and the Horns in particular. He was a wannabe jock who expected students to participate in his pathetic touch football league. A very nasty, petty, pathetic hatchet man.

You may not like to hear it, but doesn't make it true.

Texas has the most profitable athletic department in the country. You're pretty much the top choice of just about every upper tier athlete in the state of Texas. You have a large and affluent alumni base.

... and you have almost zero hardware to show for it. 1 football national championship and 3 baseball national championships is all you've got in the last 30 years. For an athletic department with Texas' resources, that's a fairly colossal underachievement.
