My wife does not like big crowds. My wife does not like beer. My wife does not like to be jostled and shoved. My wife does not like food and drink spilled on her. My wife does not like noise. My wife does not like basketball. My wife does not like people standing in front of her. My wife does not like bathroom lines. My wife does like corn dogs.

Busted. Other than close games, I always leave early. Being stuck in traffic for 20-30 minutes isn't worth the [deleted].
up by 25 - i think its ok. Close game, u dont leave. Its not like a mavs or cowboys game traffic

I agree with you that there's no need to be rude- but you bought a ticket to a college sporting event. Why the heck would you expect people not to stand, cheer loudly or both?? I agree with other posters- if that is the case you should buy first row seats or just stay home.

You can't control what people in front of you choose to do. Just like a concert or any sporting event. To tell people in front of you to sit down is something you are asking for, politely- not something to demand or expect.

C'mon guys- this is fandom 101. You'd think some of our fans are buying tix to the symphony!

Living in DC, I had skins season tix. I'd never ask anyone to sit down, even if I myself had a broken leg.

No worries NC. You're a good fan, and by what I can tell good guy. With me being wrong a good chunk of the time, I just don't need anyone twisting my words to make it worse!

All else is perfect and not worth mentioning.

As far as "fandom 101", hate to break it to you but SMU fans are C- students at best. Clearly SMU has fans that are A+ that help the class average, but the list of missteps is huge:

- It's cute to be late for the game (like really late).
- A good chunk of the building thinks he/she is at a tennis match (you don't have to stand to cheer).
- For the love of God, help the team and yell out the shot clock under 10. The fact that SMU has almost had multiple shot clock violations this year at home should be embarrassing. I can literally hear echoes of my voice counting down from 10...9...8
- Most cheer at the wrong times. If you're only yelling after dunks, D- for you.
- Yelling "over rated" is rookie fan BS. Think about what you're saying when you chant "over rated".
- Chants are uncoordinated and die quickly.
- There's no coordination or ritual (ex: when players on the other team foul out).

Before anyone fires back and pukes all over my post, I agree fan support is growing and the fans will figure all of this out on his/her own. For as fast as things are progressing, a Friday night "fan clinic" might be a good idea! I just wouldn't make any more comments about something being "fandom 101" until SMU is comfortably passing. Right now, SMU is a bunch of beer covered fans that get loud for alley oops, free throws, and comedic coaches.

Please add to your list that it is bad to leave early and to complain about some sloshed beer.

CMF, these are rookie fans you are talking about with zero traditions other than Varsity. Suckage for Decades - It will take time. Especially learning appropriate times to cheer. Stops and d should be highlighted more, yes.

i think they are up to B- THe "no means no" was awesome. when the whole place does SMU it is VERY loud. Would like to see more clever things, but i think that comes with time. They are doing great for being rookies.

The athletic department should also pick 4 or 5 of the MOB to actually wear different costumes each week to mix it up, and add to the regulars.

Lets please not get in dicussions about the appropriate time to high five your buddy at the game. Fans should try to make as much noise as they can whenever they can except free throws for us. Please dont try to tell people when to get excited.

I think ALL are learning the approriate behavior's for a Top 25 program. Cox thats bad Karma to have a list posted and you are one of the FWF's that leave early?...at least all should stay for the pony up SMU with the team and the band.

Oh no. I like to see the other side and laugh at the absurdities posted. How you can state how fans should act openly admit you leave early and don't like a rowdy crowd with a little spillage amazes me. Keep it up.

You're not wrong PScott, I raised my hand on that one. On a 20 point game I'm leaving 60 seconds early. It that makes me a bad fan, so be it. Don't really care about the group hug at the end.

Agree it's a process and like I said, I know SMU will get there. Just keep reading comments about "fan 101" stuff and there's still much to be worked out. Just saying.
