NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUNBC Sports
College Basketball Talk’s Latest Top 25 Rob Dauster Feb 3, 2014, 11:10 AM EST Leave a comment source: I spent the morning arguing with Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com for his decision to include SMU in his Top 25. You can see it here. SMU is sitting right there at No. 25 despite the fact that, just six days ago, the Mustangs lost to South Florida at South Florida. His justification, more or less, is that the Mustangs have (mostly) beaten who they’re supposed to beat, and they also have wins over two teams that are all-but locks for the NCAA tournament in UConn and Memphis, both of who can be found in both my top 25 and his top 25. And at this point, that’s actually a resume that’s worth consideration for being ranked, because once you get past the top 22 or 23 teams, there is a whole lot of mediocrity out there. Me? I have New Mexico ranked 24th mostly because they beat Cincinnati back in December and because they have been steam-rolling the Mountain West despite missing starting center Alex Kirk of late. The MWC is down this year and UNM might be better without Kirk because it forces them to actually defend. I have Pitt ranked 25th despite the fact that they’ve beaten absolutely no one of note — unless you are enamored with Penn State or Stanford — simply because I think that they are better than some of the other teams in consideration. You want to put UMass or Gonzaga or Wisconsin there? It’s not all that crazy. Neither is ranking SMU. Because, as ridiculous as this sounds, whipping up on this Memphis team — at home, nonetheless — is enough to set SMU apart from some of the other dreck that will find its way into the ‘others receiving votes’ pile, even if it came four days after a loss to South Florida. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports. ... -top-25-8/
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUWe shall see what he says after we crush Temple and steal one from Cincy. I look forward to it.
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUnew Mexico is not that good at all - and he is right Pitt has beaten nobody - also USF will surprise some people before they are done - maybe even in our AAC tournament. But you cant blame this guy for being reluctant to rank us - we beat Cinn and we get on the map for good.
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUWish we hadn't spot the bit at USF but while he doesn't rank there is a lot of credit in there. I am ok with it. Plenty of potential big victories left out there and especially at Moody. Not many teams are going to want to play us with our D and our inside O.

Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUI think his assessment is fair. We can change his tune with a couple of wins this week though.
That USF loss still stings, but I think the Memphis win basically made last week a 'wash' as far as rankings go.
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMU
Have you seen NM play? I've watched 4 or 5 of their games and they're awesome. Pony up!
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUUSF almost beat Cinci at home! The USF loss was a bad loss, they did not beat us as much as we came out with no energy and desire.
We are the new kids on the block, lots of positive stories out there on us, there has to be some folks that want to do the other side of that coin, talk about how we've not done much, just riding on the popularity of LB. That's ok. 2 W's this week will shut them all up! Pony Up!
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUThere are media debates on whether or not SMU should be ranked. Let's stop and savor the moment:
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMU
Next year there will be no debate. Pony up!
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUwe are worried about what some blogger thinks? Is this blogger on the selection committee ?
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUIf you knew we'd lose to USF but LB would use it to pull off wins against Memphis, Temple, and Cincy....would you take it?
I would!
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMU
Agreed. A pair of big games for us this week... at home!
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMURead it again. He's not unimpressed at all. The writer says that thinking we are legit top 25 is "not all that crazy."
I still think we're not yet there.
Re: NBC CBT Blogger is not that impressed with SMUWHO CARES!!!! "JUST WIN BABY!!!"
