Somebody is Listening

Postby friarwolf » Tue Feb 04, 2014 10:00 am

Facts are being gathered about seats not being used. Seat holders are going to be getting nice calls reminding them we need those seats filled and if need be, we will gladly help them fill them. If they continue to go unused, there could be actions taken.

My dad even took individual pictures of grps of 4-6 seats in a row that were never filled. He is sending them in to find out who isn't using their tickets. Section 104 is brutal

I don't think there is anything they could do this year, the seats are bought and paid for. They could say something like at least 50% of a person's purchased season tickets need to be scanned to be eligible for renewal.

Also this is a much more sensitive topic than people on this board sometimes realize. The people with the center court seats are big donors. It does not help a program long term to insult people who step up and contribute like they do. I want the seats filled but this need to be done in a respectful way.

Sounds like it is being done in a respectful way. Also some of those seats could be a corporate purchase by some company that is not using them.

It is very sensitive and it is being handled in the right way. One of the issues is that the big time donors buy a lot of seats - that helped in the past with revenue - but it is resulting in a lot of seats going unused now. This is a short term problem that will get resolved......

They need to implement a policy similar to wht the River Oaks Country Club does during the US Clay Court Championships. They ask all the season ticket holders to turn in their tickets for sessions they cannot attend. The box office then re-sells those tickets and gives the proceeds to Texas Children's Hospital. I know I would like to go to Saturday's game but it is sold out. Unfortunately, I will be travelling the weekend of the UCF game and I live in Houston, so mid-week games are not possible for me.

I still don't understand why you would pay big bucks for tickets knowing you won't use them. Is it just SMU alums being SMU alums? Throwing money around to say you have it?

Plenty of people do that. I know that many Astros season ticket holders renewed their tickets and rarely used them. I have a friend whose company had 4 seats and regularly gave me 2 and nobody ever showed up with the other 2 tickets. Many fans that have too much money, do it as an investment. That way, when the team is good they are locked in to great seats. You might be better off buying the tickets on the secondary market but at least these people are supporting the product monetarily.

I think the tickets do get handed out - to family, friends, and employees who don't use them. Better that SMU get those tickets back so that we can sell them or at least put them in the hands of people who want them and will use them.........

Maybe they have been buying more tickets than they needed for the last decade to support the program?

simple - if you don't show up by 10 minute mark, your seats get filled. If you happen to show up late, that person who filled your seat has to move back to their original seat.

boom. done.

I would watch.

I agree with others that this is a short-term problem that will solve itself in the long-term. Temporary fixes are welcome though.

We've been a "hot ticket" for all of a month... honestly a lot of SMU alumni are still unaware.

This is surprisingly true. Took my brother (smu Alum) to Memphis game. He had no idea. Local media does not help either.

what amazes me is how unaware some people are. I bought tickets on the secondary market for the CInci game and paid 3x face. I would have paid more to sit down in the 100's but there are none for sell. I guess the people who don't go to the games just don't realize they are throwing away money or they just don't care.
