This is a serious question. What makes you think this will be different when we have less talent and less motivation from our coaching staff while losing our best offensive coach? Blind optimism in not a valid answer
Again, I think he will try to prove the doubters wrong and get another year or two out of the contract.

TCU played BU real strong and almost went away with beating them. Next year, TCU will roll on Baylor (for different reasons namely GP having Briles number)
Ok. State destroyed BU last year. Study what the teams that beat them did, and learn how to beat them. No one is invincible.

Looking forward to the upset!
What makes you think we have the personnel or coaching to do what any of those teams did to Baylor? What makes you think that June will ever commit to running the football? Even in the Line era he was schizo about the running game. We always hear this sunshiner's rhetoric regarding our teams but it's never backed up by anything except weak transitive logic.

As far as I know, and people close to the source know, June Jones just signed an extension to his contract for 3 years. He is not a lame duck coach and he is not going anywhere. I understand you like to go the pessimist/realist route, but we have to wait and see what this team will be made of. Everyone knew the trainwreck was coming when we lost a ton of seniors last year. I see how everyone here thinks this is the worst class ever. But, remember Zach Line was a 2 star kid...and look how that turned out. I believe in all of these kids that we just recruited, and I think we will put up a fight. Remember our goal is to position our program to win our conference, and we were pretty darn close this year...on our first year. Once we become regular championship contenders, we can start thinking Big Time.

Shouldn't he have been trying to win all those other years too? I know he could give less of a [deleted] about OOC, (which still baffles me btw), but if you really think his motivation is "to get another year or two out of the contract" then that's absolutely appalling and tells you he doesn't care about SMU, he just cares about his paycheck

You're really going to use 1 guy as an example to justify this garbage class? Come on now, you can do better than that. Also, how the hell is 4-4 in conference play close to winning the conference? That's terrible and we didn't even have to play Louisville. Please explain? Close losses don't mean [deleted].

I cannot speak for June Jones, but I can sure hope that he does heed what he learned after the Cincy game in which he admitted SMU needs a solid run game to win games in our conference and against Big 12 rivals. Totally agree with you there bud. There are no moral victories in Football. We lost and went 4-4. But we did have a shot at winning at least 7 games in conference. Team has to take what we learned from those games and do better next year. June is running out of excuses.

I really wonder if some of you stay in a drug-induced stupor all day.
This game will not be competitive. This game will not be within 40 points. Baylor recievers will make our secondary look like the mini-mustang cheerleaders chasing balloons on the court at halftime.
We aren't in Baylor's league. With GG gone along with some key D folks, this is gonna be an old fashioned butt thrashing like you haven't seen since a Houston game some years ago.
Baylor is already talking this game internally and believe me, from what my contacts that are employed at BU say, they have a desire to rub our nose in it bad. Real bad.

I'll say this about June Jones- he can certainly pull out a win when he needs it most. After an embarrassing 2010 Army bowl loss he goes out in 2011 and beats #15 TCU at their place, and after the ASU debacle he proceeds to whip Pitt in the Compass Bowl. Also see: 2012 Tulsa game after a disastrous Tulane loss nearly cost us a bowl. Hell, he almost pulled another one out to put us in a fifth straight bowl against #15 UCF this season with a second string QB.
I have no optimism regarding the Baylor or A&M games- those could be very ugly. Although I could see JJ pulling off another TCU upset (unlikely but not completely out of the realm of possibilities) with them breaking in a new QB, or going something like 6-2 in conference and pulling out another 8-win season with a bowl win to keep the heat off. June has a massive ego but he's not an idiot- he's seen the basketball program's success and I think he knows the honeymoon's over for his tenure here. From what I've gathered, Hart made it clear that seasons like last year are not acceptable, and if people on the CoC are bailing on their financial commitments as has been reported, then the message has been sent loud and clear.
Or maybe he's just getting one final $2M check this year before jetting off to his Hawaiian retirement for good. I don't know.

I dunno...he really needed those wins at UH and UCF this year...granted that garbage turf claimed Gilbert's knee and cost us a bowl berth...but he definitely needed them. He's standing out on the plank and has to walk himself back with no talent.

Exactly my thought process. He will come out and pull a win out of his [deleted] in OOC which will probably be UNT and TCU. We will just have to wait and see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We might have beaten UCF if Burcham doesn't get hurt and reduce us to trotting out our third string QB. And things would have been a lot different in both UH and UCF games if we had GG. Not making excuses for June, though. Cincy and Rutgers coulda shoulda been wins.

A loss is a loss. Doesn't matter how you got there. Injuries happen and that's why you need to recruit to have depth because they are going to happen. Gilbert could have thrown 4 picks in both those games, he looked bad against the best teams he played last year so who knows. Maybe Houston would have hung 70 on us, maybe us on them. Basing an argument about speculating what maybe could have possibly sorta kinda supposedly so you're saying there's a chance have been is pointless.
