Re: June Jones on ClassSounds like the typical NSD fluff. It's the one day of the year where everyone is a winner

Re: June Jones on Class
Go look at his best class (#50)...half those guys never played. There's a truth that you cannot judge based upon rankings. There's not a lot of difference between 45 and 75, 2-3 players that don't make it or pan out. On the other hand, 75 and 105 is 2-3 players as well.
Re: June Jones on ClassThere's no difference in 1 year of 45 vs. 75, agree. But having a couple players overachieve out of each class is not going to build this program into anything besides the mediocre, lower-tier, mid major team that it is.
We need consistent recruiting of players who are serviceable. Not mostly players who couldn't otherwise play D1 ball.
Re: June Jones on ClassThere is a huge difference between 45 and 75. Less between 75 and 125. Compare TCU's Class
9 Texas Top 100s 4 Four Stars plus Parade All-America from the East plus the No. 1 JUCO Safety in Country who turned down UT plus a Top JUCO OLM who turned down OU plus the 5A Player of the Year plus a scattering of out of state 3 Stars You're going to find out the difference in the next 4 years just like we have in the last 15 years against schools like TCU, Baylor and Tech against whom we are about 2-24 (guesstimate) the crapshoot is at the bottom where everybody is guessing. Re: June Jones on ClassI get what you are saying but I am arguing that 1 class 30 spots lower is probably a handful of guys and not the deciding factor between a great program and a lousy one

Re: June Jones on ClassDudes as clueless as he is defeatist.
Re: June Jones on ClassOnly hope, these kids are diamonds in the rough (Zach Line types). Lets see....
Re: June Jones on Class
We have a couple of highly regarded good players that will stand out imo. But to hope that every kid in the class is Zach Line would be a stretch. Depth problems may occur if they aren't though. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: June Jones on Class
Yeah, on paper there's a HUGE difference. But, there's not much difference when you compare SMU's #50 class, that none of the top players played, vs. #75 class. I stand by my statement. I agree with the other poster that this means "in any given year." Year over year 75th best class teams will not compete with year over year #45th best class teams. On the other hand, OHIO did pretty good with sub-90s classes, and Boise State consistently does it (I'm sure they have a bevy of late-admits ...). All things equal, I'd rather have Top 40 classes every year. Having said that, 7 of the top 9 classes are SEC. This is pretty consistent. Yet, only 2-3 of those teams are truly in the top 10 every year. I think that if you were to re-examine the people who made it to their junior year in those TOp10 classes, very few of the top guys that afforded Ol' Miss or whomever into the Top10 actually got admitted/stayed around. See Baylor's Top4 class c.Chuck Reedy?
Re: June Jones on ClassYeah genius-that's because they play each other all year. A team even with Top 50 recruiting ranking is likely going to be the cellar dweller in the SEC. You just don't get it. You can't compare Top 25 rankings of a Boise or TCU with Recruiting rankings of the SEC on a consistent basis. See TCU which has struggled in Big 12 despite its best recruiting years ever in the prior 4 classes-although I think that has been exacerbated by losing 7-8 starters in both 2012 and 2013 due to off field issues-can't overcome that kind of turnover

Re: June Jones on Class
By the same token, winning xx number of games in CUSA/AAC is not noteworthy when you get stomped by every decent team you play. Beating up on teams that finish the season with 0-4 wins against crap competition is nothing to get excited about. We would win 0-1 games in any of the major conferences, just like almost any major conference team would run the table against our competition.
Re: June Jones on ClassHere's how to understand Stallion. He's 100% committed to the idea that recruiting is all that matters. On the aggregate, he'll be right every time. It's a good play, but he is occasionally very wrong with particular teams or classes.
