June's Pathetic TweetJune hopes you will infer from the chart he tweeted that 2 stars and 4 stars are equal because there are the same # of each on the Broncos. This shows just the opposite -- because there are so many more 2 stars than 4 stars, the odds of a 2 star making the Broncos are much higher. For this chart to support JJ's apathetic approach to recruiting, the ratio of 2 stars to 4 stars on the Broncos would be the same as the ratio of 2 stars and 4 stars issued each year. Congrats to HoopmanX for an immediate slam of June's Tweet.

Re: June's Pathetic TweetGood point, these numbers need some context to understand them.

Re: June's Pathetic Tweet"I've met him whenever I go to SMU," McGuire said. " I love Coach Jones but I've never talked to him about recruiting."
That is Joey McGuire - HC at Cedar Hill HS, a school that produces muliple D1 prospects every year and is located very close to SMU. That quote was just tweeted to Rick Hart and June Jones by yours truly.
Re: June's Pathetic TweetMaybe he is trying to motivate his players by showing they still have a chance to make the nfl even if they were two stars.
Re: June's Pathetic TweetThe problem is Baylor, TCU, and A and M, three stars are beating the [deleted] out of our two stars before any of them get to the NFL.
June it is about winning college football games not being a minor league to the NFL. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: June's Pathetic Tweet
Fair enough but what about winning something while they're in college? Even as a glorified NFL farm team we're not that good because the best ones at it are the teams that get the elite HS players. Re: June's Pathetic TweetI feel the need to point out, not because I think he is a good recruiter, that his point has validity. Statistics are whatever you want them to be to a large extent but a players chances of making the bronco's roster are equal regardless of whether he is a 2 or a 4 star recruit.
At some point people will learn that the stars don't mean a whole lot. Performance on the field does and it is in that department I hold JJ responsible. Mustangs Abu!
Re: June's Pathetic TweetHigher percentages of high-stars become All Americans so if you land one you have a higher chance he will do well than if it's a 3 or 2 star. Statistics are fun

Re: June's Pathetic Tweet
If you want to win a NC stars mean everything, and the greater your star rating the better your odds of performing on the field. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: June's Pathetic Tweetyes, you can make stats say whatever you want them to say…
But, I think this is a little motivation and encouragement for the players. And let's face it, June has a pretty good track record of getting players to NFL, so he might as well play it up for the players as well as future recruits. Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: June's Pathetic Tweet
With all due respect, you are wrong. A player's chance of making the Broncos is NOT equal regardless of whether they are a 2 star or 4 star recruit. Each year year there are a bit more than 3x as many 2 stars as 4 stars. If each had the same chance of making the Broncos, there would be 3x as many 2 stars as 4 stars on the team. I encourage you to visit this CBS Sports article brought to our attention by sbsmith: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/21641769 It states: "The exceptions prove the rule: Overwhelmingly, setting aside every other conceivable factor that determines success and failure -- injuries, academics, even coaching -- individual players and teams tend to perform within the very narrow range their initial recruiting rankings suggest. Some percentage of both groups will not. But when it comes to forming expectations, it should go without saying that you never want to count on being one of the anomalies." Or, as Damon Runyon would say, "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's how the smart money bets."
Re: June's Pathetic TweetAgain, look at the offer lists. We have more recruits in this class that don't have D1A offers than any class June has recruited in the last 4 years.

Re: June's Pathetic TweetHe never said that he doesn't want the 4 star guys. He's just pointing out that the guys he got have a chance to pan out.
I also agree that this is probably aimed at his players. "See? We believe you can be great!" and aimed at fans. "See? These guys can be great!" JJ's ability to develop 2-star guys into good players is a hell of a lot better than what we saw before, and the NFL apparently agrees. I hope there are more guys in this class like that.
Re: June's Pathetic TweetIf the statement was meant as motivation for the players that is great. But I have always been under the impression from JJ, getting kids to the NFL was more important to him than recruiting kids for SMU. Just my opinion.
GO MUSTANGS!
