Look no further than Moody.

LB recruits top rated players. Team wins. Alot. Against good competition.

JJ doesn't recruit top rated players. Team is mediocre. Alot. Loses against good competition.

Every 4* doesn't pan out. Sure. Sometimes 2*s do. But you increase the odds of success with 4*s than 2*s.

A load of 3* with good offer list helps as well.

Like the article says we need to step up our game in recruiting.

I also agree that this is probably aimed at his players. "See? We believe you can be great!" and aimed at fans. "See? These guys can be great!"

JJ's ability to develop 2-star guys into good players is a hell of a lot better than what we saw before, and the NFL apparently agrees. I hope there are more guys in this class like that.

He doesn't want to put in the work to get the 4 star guys (or any highly recruited players), he'd rather they seek him out. He has turned a few 2 star guys into pros, he has also missed a lot and that has created depth/talent issues for us which show up when we take on legit competition. Chances are this class will create those same issues for us.

I don't care how many players June gets into the NFL, I care how many mother [deleted] football games he wins at SMU

june would rather work at explaining how a few 2 stars bucked the odds and made it with the broncos RATHER than doing any work at all in recruiting.

Seems to me that the most work june has done since he has been here has been in the presentation of "overhead projectorgate" and now with "broncogate." But on second thought, you can prepare for both of these anywhere, even in Hawaii between rounds. And without having to lower yourself to talking with 18-19 year olds.

At some point people will learn that the stars don't mean a whole lot. Performance on the field does and it is in that department I hold JJ responsible.

With all due respect, you are wrong. A player's chance of making the Broncos is NOT equal regardless of whether they are a 2 star or 4 star recruit. Each year year there are a bit more than 3x as many 2 stars as 4 stars. If each had the same chance of making the Broncos, there would be 3x as many 2 stars as 4 stars on the team.

I encourage you to visit this CBS Sports article brought to our attention by sbsmith: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/21641769

It states:

"The exceptions prove the rule: Overwhelmingly, setting aside every other conceivable factor that determines success and failure -- injuries, academics, even coaching -- individual players and teams tend to perform within the very narrow range their initial recruiting rankings suggest. Some percentage of both groups will not. But when it comes to forming expectations, it should go without saying that you never want to count on being one of the anomalies."

Or, as Damon Runyon would say, "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's how the smart money bets."

The pool of players is all 2 and 4 star players. The subset of that group is the guys playing for the broncos. You are missing the structure of the statistical reference.

So in summary John Fox can coach 2 and 3 stars to win big games and June cant. Seattle must have had more 2 stars than Denver.

To compare apples to apples JJ really needed to mention a college team that gotten to the national championship with 2 star players.

June only cares about how many players he gets into the NFL not how many championships he wins.

With all the NFL talent SMU has had over the last 5-6 years, it proves the point that June is a poor college coach.

maybe if the Broncos had less two star players they wouldn't have had their butts handed to them in the super bowl.

This is not hard math. Take last years top thirty teams, and then find out how they did in recruiting 5, 4 and 3 years ago. I would be very willing to bet without even doing the research (im as lazy as June, but paid significantly less), that there are TONS more 3 and 4 star players (forget 5 star - we aren't getting those guys unless we are in a major conference) and very few 2 stars, as opposed to our very few 3 star and tons of two star players.

The recruiting rankings do mean something, and calling out the exceptions just either makes you look stupid, or maybe like you are trying to save your over priced job, or both.
