RPI Forecast

Postby Grant Carter » Fri Feb 07, 2014 2:49 pm

RPIForecast.com added a new feature where you can plug in a win/loss for future games and it spits out the projected end of season RPI based on the projected record. Normally they plug in some fraction of a win based on their projected outcome for the game.

If SMU:
Loses to Cincy, UConn, Louisville, Memphis and beats everyone else - RPI of 54

Same as above, but beats Cincy - RPI of 44
Same as above, but beats Cincy and Louisville - RPI of 34
Beats everyone but Memphis - RPI of 29

Wins out - RPI of 24

You can set any combination of wins or losses that you want, good way to day dream. It will even let you change the result of past games if you want to play the what might have been game.

Grant, please take this the right way, but you're like a bookie I used to know. He got killed by the Vegas mob, but he loved numbers and was a good dude!

Good to know. Glad grant did the combinations, my head would explode if I tried.

How does it account for our past opponents future record? Aaaarrggghhh I started thinking about it.

If we win the ones we should, beat Lousville and lose to the rest, we'd be 44, but with an SOS of 113

My prediction is as follows:

Beat Cincy
Lose to UCONN
Split vs Louisville, @ Memphis.
Win the other games that we "should" win.

So I put in a loss against Louisville and win @ Memphis along with everything else above, and got RPI of 38. 33 if we had beaten USF.

Do that, and we end up 24-7. That would be pretty sweet.

24-7 would be sweet! I'm assuming that's, what, a 10 seed?

I think we win one out of four against Cinci, @UCONN, Lville and @Memphis. Man, that is a murderers row.

I prefer to think Cincy faces a murderer's row this week by hosting UCONN two days before traveling to play us! :)

Call me crazy, but I believe we will win at LEAST 2 of the 4 big ones left on schedule.

We dominated Memphis and Uconn already, and the losses at Cincy and Louisville were games that we climbed out of big holes after slow starts. We fought to the finish in those losses.

SMU is a much much better team now, and a much more confident team now.

We win at least 2 of 4, would not be surprised if we win them all.

But whatever happens, playing in that San Antonio bracket would be a real bonus!

Wouldn't be a lot easier just to win the rest of our games. Then I do not care what the RPI is, they would have to take us. So lets just do that,ok.

I'm hoping for a 12 seed. Seems to be the best way to get to the sweet sixteen

I don't think 8 points is big against major competition like that imo.

We were down around 20 vs Lou before making our run early 2nd half… the point is, we were in those games at the end, and we are playing much better ball now.
