June has been trying for years to "modernize" game presentation at football games (yes I know, big horses and black unis but there is a lot of other stuff as well), but has been kept by doing it because of all the traditionalists. I think with the success of Moody, we will see a ton of changes to game presentation next year in football...

Who the hell cares about game presentation when the product on the field blows? What a crock of [deleted] jB

Yep, and the worst years of SMU football gameday presentation were with Robert Lee Kobb (June's cowboy-singing friend) running the gameday presentation despite having no experience in the field.

Biggest myth in the SMU world. The only thing June did is call Larry to tell him to hang in there.

Well, it was the biggest myth until you said that the 7,000 basketball fans are the same 7,000 that go to football games.

To recap, the three biggest myths at SMU today:

1. 7,000 basketball fans are the same 7,000 football fans
2. June has any responsibility for LB being here
3. If we don't let SAEs wear their SAE shirts, we will have empty seats in the student section

Wait, you started all of those.

The vast majority of the season ticket holders going to the bball games are the same season ticket holders from the fb games.

btw, I'm no june lover, it's time for him to go last year, but I realize the economics behind it. I was first with PhirePhilBennett when he overstayed his usefulness. FB is in a perilous time next year, but looking at the schedule, we can win 4-5 pretty easily, and if we over-perform, who knows another 6-6 team, maybe 7. we could also tank.

point is, what good does it do to lambast him? pretty petty. make your thoughts known to the AD privately, and with directed $$$'s.

The STH overlap is considerable, but hoops is drawing people in for single-game tickets or ticket plans who had never set foot on SMU's campus, much less gone to a football game, before.

yeah, but that's not very many people, in total.

The tech game brought in more "single-game tickets or ticket plans who had never set foot on SMU's campus" than the ENTIRE basketball season did or will ever do.

10 moody x 7000 = 70,000 of which 80% are students or sth or fb sth = 14,000 "maybe" newbies.

texas tech game = 34,790

average attendance not incl tech or ucf game = 19k

15k = single-game tickets or ticket plans who had never set foot on SMU's campus

reasonable deduction = Tech game drew more "single-game tickets or ticket plans who had never set foot on SMU's campus" than entire bball season

How many of those came to see SMU? My guess is those came to see Tech.

Right, I started "Myths"

To recap, the three biggest myths at SMU today:

1. 7,000 basketball fans are the same 7,000 football fans

No, I said the vast majority are STH from FB

2. June has any responsibility for LB being here

No, I said he was instrumental as in played a part.

3. If we don't let SAEs wear their SAE shirts, we will have empty seats in the student section

No, I said who cares: Let them wear them without [deleted] at them. The point is that in time all will be healed.

Did we somehow ban them from wearing their letters ( when the student section was half-full ) and that made more students somehow magically appear?

If we were 5-19 would you still be [deleted] about the SAEs who show up wearing their letters?

Wait, you started all of those.

No, that's mischaracterization. You must be a democrat.

Let him backpedal this:

"hoops is drawing people in for single-game tickets or ticket plans who had never set foot on SMU's campus, much less gone to a football game, before"

I guess, if read literally, yes, even just 1 single person drawn in to see a bball game justifies his statement.

But, in the broader context, new bball attendees are dwarfed in comparison to new fball attendees by just 1 fb game (albeit tech).

His counter? "Oh those are tech fans?" what's the difference? butts in the stands are butts in the stands.

flame all you want, but dissing june solves nothing.

As my employer said long ago, telling me what's wrong with something isn't helpful. telling me how to solve the problem is. It's like aszholes and elbows, everyone's got 'em. Show me the solution, not your opinion of what's wrong.

2. You said that he helped recruit LB. All he did was call him and say "hang in there." Like Larry had any other options at the time - need I remind you that our hire was almost universally lampooned at the time?

Read in context to the thread, and don't be so f-ing literal dude.

1. Do you seriously believe I meant that the EXACT same 7,000 fb fans are showing up for BBall? C'mon.
(context: do you read the bible literally as well, or can you infer some sort of reasonableness in regards to term "the same"?

I think it reasonable to assume that "the same" means some sort of "majority" of sth. )

2. June did "help recruit" - where's there a misquote here? I didn't say he was the REASON why LB came here.

3. Do you seriously believe that I meant that if we don't allow fraternity letters that the students wouldn't show up? (context: if that were your choice, which would you prefer, a or b? NO, the context is that "who the F cares whether or not they wear their letters, if they show up. I'm happy that the students have come out in droves, but that's because we are WINNING. If we weren't you'd still be [deleted] the only students that show up are in the letters.)

What good comes from consistently flaming June jones? Explain?

1. I read it in context - don't try to change what you said. (And don't compare anything you say to the Bible)
2. I will put it this way: if June doesn't make that call, LB still ends up here. June gets no credit from me, but you infer that June was "instrumental as in played a part."
3. Given that you doubled down on it by posting a pic of the ice game and said "Look, if the SAE's were allowed to wear their uni's, we would have had people in the stands," I don't believe for a second that that is what you meant to say. Don't try to change what you said.

I have an issue with these because you are inferring that SMU is less than what we are.

1. Infers that SMU only has 7,000 fans and can't win fans by performing well in sports
2. Infers that SMU only hired Larry Brown because June "played a part" in "recruiting" LB
3. Infers that SMU student attendance is tied to having fraternities put self-glorification above school pride at all sporting events.

Anyway, I am done with this conversation as you have consistently shifted what you originally said. May you and your family have a great day.
