Question for Stallion?

Postby Insane_Pony_Posse » Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:12 pm

Stallion....you are one of the brightest on this board and you can "tell it like it is" in a logical, educated manner.

In a nut-shell please explain how it is a little small private school in Cowtown, Texas is beating an Oklahoma?

A little private school is in post season bowls almost every year, a little private school with about the same enrollment as SMU is regularly in the Top 25 - Top 30?

A little private church school in a 50 year old stadium is just blowing SMU away in over-all performance on the football field?

What is it?

TCU Academics are not a joke are they?....So what is it?

It's cant be as simple as adding a few more JC players can it?

There has to be something we are missing?

All the excuse makers come up with different reasons, but shouldn't SMU be able to do what TCU does?

What do we need to do to mimic TCU?

Look I hate those guys.....they are arrogant.....

and yeah they will be over here on this board this week "talking trash"....and we will all get mad....

but instead of getting mad we need to copy them.....as much as I hate to admit it......they are "getting it done".......life is too short....hell we could all be in the nursing home before "we get things turned around"........SMU should really take a hard look at the "TCU Model" and freaking copy it NOW!

That little private church school in Fort Worth is getting some things done....God what I would give if SMU was having that kind of fun and success over the last several years.

I really think I'm so frustrated right now-its hard to frame my response. But foremost NEVER EVER hire a coach unless you develop a MODEL which can allow you to compete with your traditional and natural rivals. Don't even start interviewing a new coach until you can sell the best possible candidate on the COMMITMENT that you are ready to give to the coach. Look we have made progress in many respects-we have better talent than we've had in several years. But in years 3-4 of a coaching regime and 18 years after the DP we are still tinkering with the Model. What are we doing with the Education Department? What are we doing about allowing players until August to qualify for admission. It appears we got 1 this year in Columbus Givens-TCU signed 6 OUTSTANDING late qualifiers and 4 of them made it(not to mention Richuel Massey's brother from the prior year)-most are already in the two deep. What are we doing with the issue of transferrable hours for Division 1-A transfers-TCU for example has about 6-8 All Conference type players who were Division 1-A transfers over the last 6 years or so. I see we finally got a Division 1A transfer from a Tier 1 University-is this acceptable progress on the issue? Baylor, TCU, UH, Tulsa, UTEP all have a handful of top Division 1A BCS transfers. Some were essential ingredients in Championships. Now if we are really implementing these final changes, if indeed that is accurate, why do we wait until a coach is in his 4th year and the honeymoon has worn out in recruiting? This is why SMU is known as a "Coaching Graveyard" and why all of Bennett's friends told him not to take this job. TCU is the program that proves that the "commitment" is a sham and that all the excuses and justifications of the administrations "model" are a lie. Let me make one thing perfectly clear - THERE IS NO REASON SMU CAN NOT COMPETE AND EXCEL IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL-don't let the nay-sayers tell you SMU is too small-the kids want to go away to school, the students don't care, SMU can't win without cheating-SMU CAN ACCOMPLISH EVERYTHING TCU HAS AND MORE. I would fire anyone who didn't feel that way.

We didn't cheat academically, so why get tough on admissions

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:06 pm

I have posted several themes about SMU these past few years.

Theme 1 - SMU didn't cheat on academics, so why get tough on admissions? The PAC 10 and Texas Tech cheated in ways that would deserve the scrutiny that SMU has given scholastics, but not the ponies.

Theme 2 - The NCAA should abandon the pretense of having so-called amateur athletics and adopt the Olympic model of letting anyone play. The difference between a student/athlete and a pro is not their compensations, but that some are going to school and others are not.

Theme 3 - At SMU others have done more with less. If a coach shows no aptitude for offense, he goes.

Theme 4 -The school has to invest more money to compete in Div. 1-A. TCU paid Coach Fran the big bucks to leave UNM and set up what the Frogs now enjoy. I'm not proud. Hire Rick.

Theme 5 - Amnesty for all. Rally any and all who will help the school rebuild its football program.
