More evidence that things are changing

Postby PonyPride » Sun Feb 09, 2014 11:07 pm

There have been times in recent years when the Dallas Morning News and I had our own private post-game press conferences, because we were the only ones there. After Saturday's win, we went to the new media room for the press conference. After Nick Russell and Cannen Cunningham spoke, there was a brief pause before Larry Brown came in, so I turned around and did a quick count.

Yes, it was a weekend game, and yes, it was a top-10 opponent, and yes, new Moody is still new and different to some. But counting reporters, camera operators, photographers, etc., I counted 47 people in the room who were not SMU employees. FORTY-SEVEN.

It won't always be like that, but it was shocking. People were jockeying for position. Can't wait to see how many are in in attendance for the Louisville game.

That is incredible. I did notice the number of press stuffed into the press bleacher.

Pony Pride, where's the press room set-up? One of the sweetest set-ups I've seen is at the renovated Crisler (scUM or Michigan), they have it glassed in at the main foyer near the trophies so fans can watch the press conferences from above or as they go down the escalator to exit the building. Never seen anything like it, one thing that POS school does well haha.

Did you see how many cameras / photographers were lined across the baseline? It looked like a celtics - lakers game at staples center

Yeah if you watch the press conferences on YouTube after the game you can tell that more and more people are showing up. Not just hearing the same two voices over and over.

The media room is on the east end of the Moody concourse, underneath the Hall of Fame Club. It's a good-sized space, with about half of the room filled with tables, so after (or even during) games, photographers are editing pictures. The other half of the room is filled with chairs for reporters and risers in the back where TV cameras set up, and it's getting pretty cozy in there. Saw some reporters after the Cincinnati game that I haven't seen in years … a lot of years.
