Rutgers potential snow out

Postby malachi896 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 10:05 pm

I'm supposed to go to NYC for work on Wednesday and was planning on taking NJ transit from Penn Station to the Rutgers game. Checked the weather today and the forecast calls for another huge snow storm in the northeast that may dump a foot of snow on Thursday. Ill probably push my trip back, but wanted to know what would happen If our game is cancelled. Would we be forced to squeeze in a one off trip back to New Jersey before march or would they try to delay it a day or so and maybe even go back to back with temple? Both scenarios sound crappy to me.

in NY/NJ we already have had 45 inches and normal this time is 15 inches. We are more prepared to handle snow and I suspect they will not cancel the game . FYI the train from NYC to New Brunswick drops you off in downtown New Brunswick, The basketball stadium is in Piscataway, NJ not New Brunswick. You can't walk there, it's too far. there is no mass transit to the Rutgers basketball stadium. Mrs Bubba and I are thinking of going but if it's 6 inches of snow/sleet/ice we don't want to be trapped on a road. There are plenty of seat available and we are planning it day to day.

Doesnt sound like too much a home court advantage. Not too many students?

Yeah, I used to live in NY so my plan was to take it out to Metropark and have a friend that lives in Edison take me over to the game. I know the NE is plenty capable of handling snow, but some projections were saying it could be the worst snow storm in 20 years so just wanted to see what fans in the NE thought about the potential impact on the game. Hopefully its still on and I run into some friendlies at the stadium, but I agree with you bubba pony - i've been stuck out in NJ when the roads get bad and its not pretty. Will avoid if the snow starts coming down heavy.

There are a few taxi cabs that service that train station. In addition, there are some Rutgers shuttle buses that run across the river to the stadium from the main campus which is several blocks away. Rutgers has a terrible campus layout with 5 different campuses in a 5 mile radius all served by shuttles. The football stadium is about a 1/2 mile across the river from the main campus ( Rutgers College ) and the Rutgers Athletic Center ( RAC ) is yet another 3/4 mile up the road from the stadium.

The big snow event is really on Wednesday night ending early Thursday morning. Things should be clear for the game. Biggest problem will be for the team to take an early flight into the area and not get caught coming in Wednesday PM or early Thursday.

Latest NYC forecast is for gusty winds, sleet, snow and rain beginning around midnight Wednesday and continuing through Thursday. Accumulation predicted at 5-8 inches. That being said accumulation can vary widely up here in the space of just a few miles depending on storm track.

I'm bumming...part of the fun of the AAC for me was the chance to see the team nearby once in awhile at least for awhile. Well goodbye Rutgers! I still have UConn and Temple although a bit farther away.

Thursday is a no go for me.

Yeah looks like I'm going to have to avoid heading out to NJ. Sucks, would have loved to catch a road game and meet some friendlies to be the obnoxious road fan for once.

I doubt they're going to cancel a college bball game because of snow in NYC very often. In the north, there are snow plows, this isn't Atlanta  Sorry Harry, had to take that shot. I'd be very surprised though in all seriousness

Yeah, I'm more concerned about flight/airport issues.

Anyone know when the team leaves for NY/NJ? I hope they leave this afternoon/early night because flights tomorrow morning or in the afternoon will be delayed or cancelled.

That's a much more legit concern. When's your flight?
